Change in transfer rules
« on: June 13, 2018, 11:39:24 AM »
Players will no longer have to get permission to transfer. And once they notify their current school of their intent to leave, they can start talking with other schools in two days.
Conferences can still enact rules barring intra-conference transfers.

Football players can play in up to four games without losing a season of competition. Nothing I see, if there is basketball in the redshirt rule.

So basically the first four games will be like an NFL preseason with expanded rosters.  Schools can decide who to redshirt after that point.

Is it just the first 4 games or 4 games total...?

Although they touched in this a bit in the article, may a school decide at any time for any reason not to renew a scholarship from semester to semester or are the schools locked into the athletes but not the athletes to the school?

I know at the moment all scholarships are considered one year scholarships but the expectati9n is it is a four year ride
Thanks

Yeah, I misread that.  You are correct.  It's at any point of the season.

I think that's a good rule.  We will have to see however.

Seems like something that will kill your APR, correct?  Guys could be leaving without finishing semesters, etc.

I would imagine you could transfer into another school just based on your previous completed semester not your current incomplete one.  Am I reading that right?

Yeah I think it’s gonna be used more for late in season for teams with less to play for. Throw some guys in and see what they got for next year

Non-issue. Just elimates redtape in 99% of cases. No meaningful change.

Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Tell that to Jarrod Uthoff and every other kid who had to deal with a coach blocking his transfer to the school of his choice.

Wow.  That's like 1/3 of the season for a huge number of programs.  That's like letting a basketball player have 10-11 games but still redshirt.  I'm surprised by this.

Wouldn’t change Uthoff’s deal, bud. Non-issue.

The P5 schools guarantee scholarships all 4 years, not year to year.   http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/11666316/big-ten-guarantees-four-year-scholarships-student-athletes

Did all P5 conferences enact this policy? The article only talks about the BigTen. If so, the Big East better follow suit as one of the Power Six in basketball.

I think a better idea would be to just guarantee the kids can finish their degree free of charge if they aren't good enough to warrant an athletic scholarship ...... assuming they are in good standing.

Not sure it matters much.....coaches will still have conversations with players telling them where they stand.....if they are told they aren't going to play most will, try to transfer to a school at a more appropriate level.
