A game in the other pod actually had a game where the Elam ending could have been influential in the final score.  You don't get the whole story from the highlights, but it seems like it was close enough throughout that it would have had a good finish regardless of the format.

https://www.thetournament.com/bracket/game-29-0

Now the other two games in the pod were decided by an average of almost 40 so I think the narrative of blow outs are going to be blow outs and good games will be good games is fairly accurate.

I have no problem with the Elam ending for events like this.  Something different to try to gain more interest.  I don't think it will ever catch on and be adopted by college or professional leagues.

getting back to the actual event... I attended both days and thought it was awesome.  Wish more came out to support the team, but it was a good crowd for a weekend in the off-season.

Very cool to see players from so many different recent generations of MU playing together, plus some familiar hated faces of former Big East opponents... who can forget Hazell's ears from Seton Hall?

Loved seeing the support from former players, like Robert Jackson, and all the current coaches and players.  Wojo was super into the games, especially the Saturday one.  He also did his best to come around and shake hands and thank the fans for coming out.  Doing a little PR stint never hurts with the fans.

Overall, these are becoming really good games.  Marquette certainly doesn't play like it's an And 1 Tour streetball game.  They run plays, press, switch defenses, and work hard.  Best part was before a Seton Hall free throw, Diener was wincing a little.  Jerel walked up and asked what was wrong and Travis just said, "I'm old" with a smile.  They all definitely take these games serious.

Hall In Is Out: Ten Thoughts on TBT rd of 32 Game in the Form of Five Thoughts (Fewer Thoughts Because It's Summer)

1) Loved seeing Travis play again, and Jamil was great, but Mo Acker really impressed me. I completely forgot about his funky shot form, and he had it working yesterday.

2) By my count, in attendance were the AD, two Associate ADs, four MBB coaches, and several other trainers, staff, and players from other sports. Nice to see the support.

3) I sat next to Travis' family. His kids are super cute.

4) Don't mind the Elam Ending, but don't see it catching on. It's a little too anti-climactic for TV basketball (though admittedly we haven't seen it play out in a really close game yet).

5) Elgin Cook was the difference maker on defense. Active on the perimeter like a Davante or a Dwight Burke could not have been.

From my rough translation his team is waiting for him to decide. What I saw in the tbt is a guy with tremendous talent still, but gets tired easily due to age.

Went through our schedule last year.  I think the only results that change with an Elam Ending (the first to the winning team +7), were wins that turned into losses against Eastern Illinois and Georgetown. Obviously, the teams will play differently versus a clock ending.  Also, we didn't score 7 points after the 4 minute mark in most of the blow out wins.

My guess is that you will be able to at some point. Last year's is sold out.

I bought one of last year's.. and will buy again if given the opportunity. One of those very rare situations where I'm open to wearing something that refers to the chicken.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

If they even made it a closeish game with the alums I'm very impressed. That alumni team is incredibly solid.

I didn't realize how long the break was after this first round. There are two more weekends of first round games. The South and West regionals play July 13-14 while the Northeast and Midwest play July 21-22. The earliest Golden Eagles TBT will play again is July 26-28.

As far as the rest of the Northeast, there are a few teams of note.

2-Seed HBC Sicklerville: They would be the favorite to be MU's next opponent. The biggest names look like NBA alums Mike James and Quincy Miller (Vander tried recruiting him to MU years ago).

1-Seed Boeheim's Army: Hakim Warrick, Brandon Triche, James Southerland, Paul Harris, and of course, Eric freaking Devendorf. The kind of team everyone wants to beat.

4-Seed Armored Athlete: Will Sheehey led AA against our boys in the Round of 16 back in MU's first TBT appearance in 2015. The good guys won, but we might see Sheehey and company again, though the roster has changed significantly. The names that most stood out were Kevin Jones from WVU and Preston Knowles from Louisville. There are a few more familiar names, and it wouldn't surprise me if this team knocked off the Boeheim boys.

Who knows...maybe we won't play any of them. But man, that feels like a long time to wait. Still, good weekend. Glad so many people came out for some summer ball.

Wow.  Jimmer Fredette has a BYU heavy team in the tourney.  Did he wash out of the NBA already?  BTW, they're losing early to a Peoria 'B' squad that I saw play last year.

Hasn’t been in the league since 2016.

He's been making a few million a year over in China. One of the more popular players in that league.

There are a few guys who are quite talented, but just not enough to be making decent money in the NBA. See Travis Diener. They make some good bank over in Europe.

Gear up for the underdog. 15-seed Talladega Knights knocked off the 2-seed HBC Sicklerville and the 7-seed Team Arkansas to advance to the Super 16 against Golden Eagles. Their big star seems to be Frantz Massenet from Drexel. Have to say, I expect MU to handle them pretty easily, though I'm sure their last two opponents thought the same.

So Greg Oden was just added to the Ohio State alum team.  How fluid are the rosters once the tournament starts?  Since Buycks was waived since it started, would he be eligible to join the team now?

Not sure on the rules, but Oden was listed on their roster last year and never played. Sullinger OTOH dominated our team.
