AE Defense Survey
« on: April 24, 2018, 09:30:24 AM »
Anonymous Eagle is trying something out that I think is both innovative and valuable in surveying MU fans on individual player qualities that make up a good defender. Crowdsourcing only works with a large enough crowd to drown out the haters voting 1 on everyone though. If you have a few minutes today, check out the link to all the player pages and give them your opinions. It only takes like 2 minutes per player. I'm really interested in seeing the responses.

My monkey comment isn't just for laughs.    The wisdom of the crowd on high knowledge issues is crap.

It's always laughable when there's some survey on something like "What should we do in Syria" when 95% of the people answering the survey couldn't find it on a map.

Our rating of Jama Cain's vertical leap or his hustle is awash in horsey sauce.

I'm not saying we're all experts, but pretty much anyone who is visiting Scoop in late April can be labeled a die hard, and most have watched a ton of basketball in general, and MU basketball in particular. So getting a broad-based sample of "knowledgeable" opinions on hyper-concentrated topics can give you a decent idea of where the consensus lies. The consensus may or may not be accurate, but so far, I've been surprised with how small the variances have been. (The intelligence question seems to have the widest range of answers.)

It's not a scientifically valid representation, but I think it is interesting and valuable. Your opinion on on Cain's hustle and leap is definitely awash in horsey sauce, but much less so than my wife's or someone who has barely seen Cain play.
