Would someone please explain why the Syria thread was locked?

A completely civil and existential discussion on WWII, not to mention - dare I say - potentially educational stuff in there for some, and it's shut down?  WTF?

If this is supposed to be a meta-lesson in fascism and censorship, epic fail, mods.

It may seem arbitrary, but sticking to that simple rule has kept the superbar nearly enjoyable the past few months.  And yes, it took me over a day to notice MU82 started a thread here.

Zero tolerance rules are dumb. MU82 has toned down his stuff considerably while Tugg never could.

Perhaps.  But we simply restarted it and I'm sure Rocky is fine about it.  A fine offseason topic no doubt.  We should try to do this more.

I tend to agree, but they are easily enforced.  And when we're talking about this free board with volunteer mods, I've got no problem with them erring on the side of easily enforced.  Besides, it would seem that this dumb, arbitrary rule also happens to have been effective.

And I say that with no disrespect for MU82 at all; I like the guy.

Mea culpa; I take it all back... on second reflection, this was not an epic fail after all.  In fact, it's a great lesson about not being able to escape the discrimination and arbitrary punishment of an autocratic regime simply by renouncing your ways. 

And the cherry on top of 82 being born into a Jewish family but now being an atheist, I mean, just, wow [head explosion hand and sound effects]... I'm honestly disappointed in myself that I didn't pick up on it earlier.

Thread relates to basketball.      We have long leashes.   Everyone gets a lot of chances until they don't, and then they get even more until they don't.
