Would be nice if we could, especially since we were not one of the first four out.

We're not in the big dance because we lost to our conference's version of a mid-major, DePaul, and because we were blown out by Villanova last week.

The NIT is a college basketball equivalent of a Participation Trophy. Warriors gnarl at Participation Trophies.

I see no value in the NIT. The money is so limited, we're talking about playing at the Al, where we've played exactly one other game that counted.  There isn't money in it.

As for experience, unless we're starting Elliott and Theo John, not sure what it gives us. A couple more games, until we get eliminated by some mid-major because we're playing hero ball?

Turn it down if you can. We'll get more out of a pre-season tournament next year than out of the NIT. Our guys should not settle for the NIT. Period.

#UnleashSean

You can and we did one year. It would be stupid too however.

We have one senior.  It's experience for everyone else.

If you are supposed to be in firmly and you miss, I understand skipping. If we were Seton Hall and losing 3 star seniors, I'd be all on board missing. Not with a young team like this.

RushmoreAcademy

Since 2000, winners have included Michigan, West Virginia, Stanford,  Ohio State, Witchita State and Baylor.  North Carolina was the runner up in 2010.
Oh the hubris.

I agree stupid to turn down an NIT bid. An opportunity for Wojo to set the agenda for next year. Get the kids to play with a chip on their shoulder for......ever. Win the NIT, get those Freshman an extra 12% of a season...

MomofMUltiples

Why would anyone even suggest a stupid thing like that? To deny our team an opportunity to continue playing this year? Why, because you are so f'in embarrassed that they failed to make the tournament?  These guys deserve to continue playing and I'm glad they will. I will enjoy the games they play. The off-season is too long. Happy for any chance to extend it.

Beyond dumb.  No way you turn it down.  Give these young men the chance to earn additional experience, this is one of the youngest teams in the country.  Besides, you cannot turn it down anymore.  The NCAA owns the NIT tournament now and the decision to turn down a NIT bid comes at the beginning of the year, not at the end.

It hasn't been the ending we all wanted but if the NIT offends you so much perhaps you should skip it and find another way to spend your time.

That's interesting. Georgia just said earlier today they would not accept an NIT bid.

They're also going through a coaching change which is why we turned it down last time. This year we absolutely positively accept the bid and gain experience for next year

Are Louisville, St. Mary's, Notre Dame, Washington, Oklahoma State and Baylor also all too good for the NIT?  Turning it down is something a program that is either very delusional or very in turmoil would do.

Indeed it is, if one believes CM Newton's comments in that other article.  Maybe their way of telling the NCAA don't bother giving us a bid, but if they were given one would the be compelled to take it?

Ask those who were students about their experience the last time we played in the NIT Title game.

muguru

We should not be playing for NIT bids at MU..better be the LAST NIT berth for a VERY long time

Wrong.

Because it is a tournament that does little for us. It's the Participation Trophy of College Basketball. It's not stupid to walk away from something that rewards mediocrity.

Why reward mediocrity?

As for me, Gang, after the DePaul game, I moved on. It was time for next year. As you who read knew, when everyone said we needed a win against Villanova, I said, no way. It's baseball time.

P.S. -- Good luck to Villanova, Creighton, Xavier, Butler, Seton Hall and Providence in the tournament.

brewcity77

It could always be worse. We could be Wisconsin who isn't even eligible for the NIT.

We lost in a crap game to Virginia Tech?

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

GooooMarquette

Barring transfers, we bring back everybody except Rowsey from this season. No way you pass up extra experience for our guys against decent competition.

GoldenZebra

MU would be very stupid to reject NIT offer...more games can only help the returning players. The more experience they get the better. Why is this even a consideration?
