Markus edges out Matt by two missed layups for SOTG. Sacar gets HM.

Markus by about as many lengths as Secratariat won the Belmont.

Sam, Rowsey, Sacar and Matt also played well but this was not close.

C'mon, it was definitely closer than the '73 Belmont :)

This team needs a defensive mindset, and so does this fanbase.

Howard fo sho.

Heldt and Hauser for co-honorable mentions.

Sacar and Rowsey were nice too (but too many TOs for AR again)

and Markus wasn't even the best Howard brother today...

Heldt, for defensive play and knocking down the clutch #ftsmatta at the end.

MUWarrior69, my moral support won the game.

I shook hands with Steve Novak who was at the game. I left my phone in my jacket so no selfie, damn. There were quite a few MU alums there as well.

Marcus92

The starters all stepped up tonight and made big contributions. Even with his 5 turnovers and relative off-night shooting, Andrew still shot 3-6 three-pointers and dished 7 assists. Sam was great with scoring, rebounding and defense. Sacar and Matt haven't played better all year.

But my vote still goes to Markus. Not just because he scored 32, but because he played such an efficient, all-around game. 5-7 inside the arc. 4-6 from outside. 7 boards. 3 assists. Played smart and tough. Total stud.

Markus

Heldt/Sacar

Lost in the shuffle of our losing streak has been Sacar's awesome play since Nova.  Guy has really grown comfortable in his role and is playing the best basketball of his career.  Hope he's one of the catalysts to help us finish strong (re: make the Dance).

Delgado is one of the biggest forces in the conference, and Heldt heldt it down even in the face of early foul trouble, extended minutes (due to illnesses), and through pressure free throws.

Heldt has my vote.

DoggyDaddy

Of course Howard's offense was key to the win, but this will often be the case over the next few games and the next few years. Heldt's defense won this game and his steady, heady play plus those two crucial free throws at the end sealed it. As Raf might say: give it to the big fella, he deserves it!

DUNKS45

This is tough but I've got to go with Markus, he was cold blooded.

KampusFoods

We need to stop being numb to Markus' greatness. He was awesome last night. Super efficient. Took good shots. 32 on 9/13 shooting? 7 rebounds to boot? Kid's a star.

Heldt.
He deserves 20-25 mins/game.
Maybe he's just one of those guys who plays better when he starts?
Heldt's intangibles made the rest possible.

No, he just plays better against low post centers like Angel Delgado and Ethan Happ.  Not as good moving in space.

25 might be a bit much with how well Theo has been playing lately. I think Matt is a guy that is a momentum kind of player. He seems like a bucket here or there adds a real spring to his step and added confidence. A couple bad misses, and he may slow down a bit and not be as alert. Last night, he seemed to thrive on defense, and that improved his all around game. This was really a great game from him.

That said, I think you still have to give Markus the nod. I don't know if he's had a game that efficient yet this year.

tower912

Matt guards the post well.  He struggles in space.  And he isn't a shot blocker.  But he played very well against Delgado.

Definitely agree here. What we saw last night was the best we can get from Matt. Got 23 minutes and I would think with Theo in the mix he should be getting 15-20 against these types of opponents. Against more versatile and quicker big men, he has trouble and arguably should be getting no more than 10-12 min IMO.

Still get frustrated with his offensive game but it is what it is. Several times he would lumber around setting high screens and roll toward the basket virtually unguarded. Half of me wants him to get the ball but then the other half is screaming NO NO NO because he struggles to finish with confidence or authority. 90%+ from the line though is a big deal. Just wish he would be more aggressive to get to the stripe more often.

Giving it to Markus but without Matt's effort, wouldn't have come out on top, so wouldn't be surprised either way.

Matt played well last night.  But he almost cost us the game missing 2 critical bunnies in crunch time.

But he made up for it with his free throws.

The missed bunnies, along with Anim's, were huge at the time, though partially negated by the fact that SH missed an even easier one on a breakaway shortly thereafter. Give and take, it happens in the course of a game.

Although a very good FT shooter % wise, swishing those two FTs shooter given how few pressure moments he has had like that showed some real stones. Good for him, he's easy to cheer for.
