That's a real bummer for Markus. He worked hard and patiently waited for his turn. And when his number was called, he answered, doing really well and helping his team win games.

I feel really bad for Marquette's top scorer and outstanding representative, but I'm confident he'll produce the next time he gets the chance.
Markus will get another chance and continue to do well

Not the NBA, but Davante Gardner reached a milestone with the Seahorses:

Nice!  Davante was incredibly skilled.  I wonder if he could have played NBA ball if he shed 50 lbs? Or maybe 75 lbs.

Nah. Davante is incredible skilled and agile, but not overly athletic.  Even if he dropped weight he wouldnt have been springy and long.  And that weight helped his style of game immensely.  He’s a delight and found a great place for him where he’s won a ton of accolades and made a lot of money, but 6’8 under the rim players don’t have a place on the modern NBA

He could've played in the NBA had he been born 50 years earlier...okay, that's an exaggeration, he could've played in the 1980s or 1990s, so maybe 20-30 years, but not today. And losing 50-75 pounds might have hurt his overall game by diminishing his ability to control space around the paint and hold his position. Fun guy to watch, but not an NBA player in this century.

The only successful post players even close to DG's size that I can think of off the top of my bald head were Wes Unseld and Ben Wallace.    Neither were known for their offense.

As a senior, he was pretty trim.  I remember that year seeing a tall African American guy walking down Wells and was surprised when I passed him that it was Davante. I had expected him to be significantly heavier, and I saw him all the time at the Courtside Club.  Maybe he didn't get a smaller uniform when he lost the weight, and that made him look larger.

Thought of him bc we just played Georgetown…. Our old pal Mac McClung finished up a 10-day with the Bulls. Got into one game and made his only shot.  Back in G-League now. Always wondered if he would find a place to play.

He’s too short and not a good enough shooter.  Fun player but there are tons of guys like him and unless he’s a 40%+ 3P shooter he’d never stick, regardless of his athleticism

I admit I don’t follow the NBA much…..what does this mean? His contract wasn’t guaranteed??

During a season, a team can sign a player to a contract that isn't guaranteed for the full season but such contracts have a date by which the team either must waive the player or guarantee the contract. In Wes' deal, that deadline was Friday, and The Athletic says the Bucks opted to guarantee it. $1.9 mil.

Talking about LaMelo Ball's game-winning shot vs. the Bucks last night, Wes set an NBA record for most use of the word "hell" in a single quote:

“It was a hell of a play, hell of a move. We knew they like to do a lot of slip action and he is a hell of a talent. He makes tough shots and he makes tough shots look easy. A one-foot runner, high pick over the top from right to left. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat. That is just a hell of a play by a hell of a player. Give credit to them. They play hard, play fast and a hell of a player made a hell of a shot.”

That's a hell of a quote!
