This kid looks long, lean, quick and fearless with the ball. Check out the sequence starting at 0:35. He comes down with a long rebound just past the free throw line and gets to the hoop with just 3 dribbles while beating 2 defenders — in about 3 seconds.

This young man is going to be a tremendous ball player for us. He is very defensive minded and team oriented. In his senior year he showed the offensive skills.  The kid is an absolute pogo stick with a great attitude. Very excited for his future.

He is working on it with Todd.  He has a good base neck.

Like the athleticism and the court vision. I think he could be developed into a point. Gonna have to work on his shot. That release point is too low.

It's hard to judge too much about his form based on a handful of highlights that only show made threes. But I had the same thought. Doesn't look like he always squares up. Relatively low trajectory, as well.

Hopefully those are all things he can improve on. If not, Elliott seems to know how to score. While I'd like to see better shooting than Junior Cadougan — 21.7% from 3-point range for his MU career — running the offense, breaking down defenses and creating opportunities for others are all more important.

I really like Elliot and have predicted he would be the freshmen that has the most impact for us this year. What I did not like about the video is that his three point shots reminded of Sandy Cohen.

His form will be corrected by coaches and through gaining strength. The team first attitude is something that can't be taught and that is why I like him so much . Don't see that often these days.

Like the athleticism... but his shot won't work in D1.  It's like early JJJ meets Sandy Cohen.  The "repair" process - if he buys in - will take one year plus.  He won't make a 3 in a game til he's a junior.

I will put down 10 grand that he makes a single three pointer before his sophomore year of eligibility is up and give you 10:1 odds.

We are not asking the young man to be a three point specialist at this point in his career. There are plenty of those guys on the team.  We are looking for some tough D , move the ball to open man and the occasional slash to the basket.  The good news is we are deep at Greg's positions and thus have the luxury to work him in at a pace that makes sense and were he can contribute the most at this stage of his development.

Love his talent.  Think he will surprise a lot of people on this board.  This team is loaded with talent and depth.  Play ball!

I disagree about being deep at his position. We have guys that can play the two, but they are really threes. There are only three pure guards on the team. Howard, Rowsey and Elliot.

Haanif cannot handle a press. I do not know about Cain. Late last season and it might of been against South Carolina Haanif turned the ball over a couple of times when facing pressure. He can fill in at the two, but he is not a pure guard.

I suppose everyone has their own nuanced interpretation of what a true two guard 'is' but by any reasonable person's measure, a two guard must be able to handle the ball against pressure.

My hope is that Haanif spent spent the off season focusing on his off-hand dribble control and finishing so that he can provide viable minutes in a two guard capacity when needed.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Sure it's nice.  But in 'old school' basketball there are THREE positions: Center. Hanni? Um, no.  Forward: Well, maybe as Hanni is listed at 6'5" so I suppose one could think of him in the #3 slot. Guard: Well, MU plays what we've historically called a 3 guard lineup with two bigs so there's that.

Now the point is we certainly want a better ball handler on the floor although if Hanni can do what Katin did last year that would be fine.

Just to put things in perspective, Haani is listed 59th in the 2019 mock NBA draft. He is the only player from Marquette listed on the any of the Mock drafts .

I am bullish on Haanif's prospects for improvement. He is a high quality young man.

No it really isn't nuanced. You have players who can handle. They could be guards or forwards or centers or whatever.

I would say that in today's games there are point guards, wings, and forwards....with the occasional center who is becoming more and more necessary.

Also, I could be wrong, but I don't think Haanie struggled against the press any more than any of our other players did last season. Katin was the only one I remember being consistently solid against the press.
