Announcers said that Wojo told them that he was rewarding the guys who worked the hardest in practice.

Yep. Who was the guy who kept saying  who starts does not matter?  Wojo made the moves and the team is responding!

Who starts doesn't matter. But I also said it can be an effective motivational tactic. Motivating players mattas. Starting no matta.

Respectfully disagree. Players want to start. It matters to them.

Here I am.  Starting no matta.  Yes, the exception is when a coach needs to refocus the team or motivate.  But that's on the players for needing the motivation.  For a winning program with leadership and toughness it no matta.  That team wouldn't need the mind games, this one does.

And last night, Reinhardt came off the bench like he's been doing for awhile. Tied for team high 32 minutes, 16/4/5 on efficient shooting.  Starting no matta.

Jajuan Johnson was 5th in minutes last night, 11 points and much more focused.  But he had a total benching against Xavier.  Total benching is even more effective than just losing a starting spot.  Again, starting no matta.

Depends on the player.  Some players play better coming off the bench and being a go-to scorer with the second team.  Some players can't warm up, then start the game on the bench, then come in as a backup and be effective.

Starting can matter.  Or it can't.  Depends on the situation.

I am not sure that can be said across the board.  From what I could tell, didn't seem to bother Davante Gardner at all.

That I'll agree with.  But playing time is still the ultimate barometer.  There usually is a high correlation between playing time and starting, but not always.

So, yes starting may matter sometimes but depending on a number of factors it may matter a lot, a little, or not at all.

Fischer is the one guy who hasn't adjusted to coming off the bench.  10 fouls in 23 minutes, although he did some goods things in his short time against SJU.

My buddy and I were talking about this last night..... say we win 1 of the next 2 heading into our Saturday game against Creighton.  What starting lineup will Wojo run out there?  Basically in every scenario we were thinking about whether Wojo sticks with this starting lineup that seems to be working the past 2 games or goes back to Fischer and JjJ for senior day.

This isn't high school hoops.  You put the starting lineup out there that you think gives you the best chance to win.  If the seniors sit, the seniors sit.

I think there's a high probability that the seniors get the start vs Creighton regardless of record up to that point.

Starting lineup really means little. When KR had his big run Wojo said he was a starter, without starting. We will see who is on the court late in a close game to see who Wojo trusts most.

Not getting the ball when he felt he had worked hard enough posting up.    I can remember the stomped foot and hands waving in the air.

I'm not quite sure I agree with that.  While at the end of the day the minutes mean the most, the starting lineup can set the tone for the rest of the game.  Against X, our starters came out fired up which got the crowd into it, got the rest of the guys on the bench really pumped up, and also got X off of their game a little bit.  The energy for the rest of the game with respect to our guys and in the rest of the building was palpable and I'm not so sure that would have been the case had we started poorly or with low energy.  Unless we have lost two in a row heading into Creighton, I really think you need to start the lineup that has been working the past few games.

I disagree completely. The first 5-7 minutes of the game are important. With the old starting 5 I always thought we had to wait 6 minutes to get our scorers like Rowsey and Reinhardt in. In those first 5 minutes the tone was set for the other team. While Marquette usually was slow out of the gate. In the past two games our starting 5 has set a tone for intensity and jumped into big leads in both games. That matters.

Right on, some minutes are more important than others.  All important minutes are not always in the Closing minutes.

If what you are saying is that a certain unit starting together matters, then yes I agree with you.

If you are saying that a certain player starting matters, then no.

The Chemistry within that unit could come from any number depending how it affects the others in that unit, that anyways that's my thoughts.

I explained myself poorly.

When someone says "Player X is playing well and he should start," that is nonsense.  Who starts is about chemistry, balance, motivation...what was mentioned above.

IOW, the best five players, or even the five hottest players, don't need to start.
