I still remember when Mark Miller pulled some strings & got Cadougan HS team to play in his annual HS tourney

I went to that game and JC looked real chubby. You could see the passing potential but definitely was questioning his ranking/MU committment after watching. He came into MU slimmed down.

They had another guy by the time of Latavious Williams I believe. Threw down some impressive dunks. I remember wondering what the hell happened to him. He was a highly ranked recruit. Then he went to the D-League for a year and became a 2nd round NBA draft pick the following year.  Not sure if he ever played in the league

Kalif Young is visiting Providence this weekend and will decide between MU and PC next week.

Wojo calls him and says "So Providence will only want you if Bentil leaves, and we want you no matter what.  Whatcha think?"

Wojo mind game.

Might as well start Mr. Young early, a''ina?

With the new NCAA rules, it's difficult to figure out how things will play out.. on one hand, I'd think many guys after the Combine will be able to figure out if they want to stay in the draft or return to school..

...but, then you've got a guy like Trimble.. who supposedly has 5 workouts with different teams scheduled post combine..

so.. could take awhile...

Didn't another big man transfer from PROV last week, theoretically opening 2 slots (if Bentil is gone)

Correct. Tyree Chambers, Junior Lomomba, and Quaddree Smith have all transferred. If Bentil goes, they have three slots. If Bentil stays they have two.

Wasn't Quaddree Smith Providence's late spring center signee from last year?  Where do you want to be in a year, Kalif?

BTW, Tyree Chambers was also a late spring Providence signee in 2014.

Junior Lomomba's second transfer, he started out at Cleveland State.  What a shame MU had no shot at Lomomba after the way Buzz treated Hennssy Auriantal during the Maymon odyssey.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Do we expect to here in the next 24 hours?

The Youngs said they would decide this week. So I would expect in the next 168 hours.

Sounds to me they lucked out. Why would Marquette want a guy that averaged 6 points at Cleveland St, can't shoot and wants out of a pretty good situation in Providence.

Its one thing to have playing time available but with all these transfers and Dunn and Bentil going pro Providence could be in for a multi-year rebuilding program couldn't they.  Unless you are a can't miss talent (ie Henry) it helps to be on a winning team.  Plus of course its more fun.  If all this takes place I'd expect MU to be more competitive of the next 2-3 years than Providence.

Methinks Crean to Ann Arbor was being facetious.

Many kids don't think this way.

Coaches who are persuasive recruiters long have been able to sway kids with, "You can be the ones who put us back on the map," or, in Providence's case, "We have been building something special here and you can be the ones to make things even better."

By joining Marquette Young will fit into a highly talented team that is positioned to score a lot of points and win a lot of games. It is an excellent opportunity to join a team that needs a big man.

Nothing surprising there.  When does a recruit say he had a bad time.

That happened to Marquette. Desmon Farmer was part of The Bronze Beast's vaunted "Flint Pipeline." They took Farmer to Saz's and the kid got the sh1ts from some bad pork. Spent the next day running to the sh1tter.

He signed with USC shortly thereafter.

Ha, if anything, recruits are usually more effusive in their description of a visit. This bodes well!

GooooMarquette

He already knew what MU had to offer.  Given that PC was his last visit, it would have been easy for him to commit before he left town if he felt strongly about PC over MU.  I like our chances.
