Who will be our best player next year?
« on: April 23, 2016, 02:16:31 PM »
I would guess Luke but I could make a case for JJJ, Hannif (if he makes the Soph jump), Duane with a breakout, and maybe a newcomer like Katin or Rowsy.

I cannot remember a year this question was so open.

Thoughts?

Somebody needs to emerge as a leader.   Henry was clearly the best player and too often the rest of the team deferred to him when he had the ball.    This year, there needs to be more ball movement, more driving and dishing, etc.     IMO, one of these 3:  Luke, JJ, Haanif.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

JJJ.  Senior, guard, best player after Henry the last couple months of the year.

I get the feeling that Haanif will emerge as the leader. I'm only speculating, but I think Wojo wants him to be.

Luke isn't gonna be the best player. Unless he learns how to not foul and rebound.

JJJ or Haanif probably. Maybe Katin.

This.

Luke is still a bit of a teenager.  Likes to be a clown.  Until Luke toughens up and start banging, his teammates won't respect him as a leader.  If he hits the weights, and starts to move people out of the way, that will be the proverbial corner turned.

I think we will see different roles develop:

JJJ- Go to player
Luke- Elder Statesmen
Rowsey/Carter- Chip on the shoulder/most edge
Duane- Mr. Clutch

I don't know enough about Katin's personality to know what role he will play, but I think he will have more of a leadership role than people think.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

JJJ may be the best difference player next year.  I love his game.  He showed George Thompson moves at times.

I think JJ will be our best player, I hope a healthier Duane will be our leader.

My definition is most important to the team, the one I want on the floor most of the time.

      A)   I look for Katin (Experience) and Carter (toughness).  Traci must improve his decision    making and Katin must be accepted by the team.

      B)   Almost there:  Haanif and Rowsy

      C)   Not there:   Luke, JJ, Duane.

At this early date, these are my choices.

"Time is the overseer of all things"   Let's see how this plays out during the season   We have had at least 2 years to watch Luke, JJ and Duane.  If you liked what you seen....Go for it.

We haven't had "at least 2 years to watch Luke" here.

Traci is your guy... you see and appreciate a perceived "toughness." I saw a 41.4% eFG and 29% turnover rate.

What do you believe those to figures will be in 2016-17 for Traci? Or does it not matter as long as the "toughness" is back?

1) Well you are correct on Luke not a full 2  yrs:
      A) 14-15........24 games played of 32  (75%)   8 Injured

      B)  15-16........33 of 33  (100%)

      C)   57 of 65...... 88%

 OK you Win not 100%

  2)  Traci as I mentioned  before,  I think his decision making improves which will  reduce Turnovers and his offensive numbers increase.  I don't know what these actual numbers will be, but you seem to have a handle on Stats.......maybe you would like to project what those numbers will be.  Also do you have a opinion of his "Toughness" or maybe there is a stat for that.

   3)  As to your last question, do you really need an answer.  Just silliness.

"Toughness" is one of those things people throw around when they like a guy even though his stats indicate otherwise.  I think Carter will improve, but to say he will be a leader because of his "toughness" doesn't make a lot of sense.  I mean, how is he "tougher" than Duane?

I look at it this way.

Best Overall Talent- JJJ, Best Distributor of the ball, great slasher and in transition, strong at  free throws  and can create fast breaks with his steals on defense. Also does a lot of unnoticed things like boxing out on rebounds.

Most Valuable Player- Luke, if he stays out of foul trouble . Should be consistent Double Double guy. Also has great on court chemistry with JJJ , who looks to feed him consistently.

Highest Scorer - Haanif, can score 17-18 a game , I expect him to force it less this year and score more as a result.

Most Clutch Player - Duane. If healthy he could have a monster year.

Winning is overrated. The only time it is really important is in surgery and war.

You may want to reword this.  It sound's like you are saying his stats Indicates he is not Tough.
