So I ran RPI Wizard that has us winning out, beating Providence in NYC, and then losing to Nova.

That would give us 71.  I don't believe any team has gotten an at large with a 70+ RPI.  So it is within the realm of possibility, and may happen given the circumstances people mention, but it would be unprecedented.

(Just so you know, losing Saturday but winning out and getting to the BET Championship game gives us an RPI of 72.  In running calculations, it is near impossible for Marquette to get in without winning Saturday.)

New Mexico got a bid in 1999 with a RPI of 74. That's the lowest ever.

More at large teams now than then!
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I believe that was under an old way of calculating however.  One that graded home and away wins and losses the same.  (But your point is a good one since it is a "relative" ranking.)

Seton Hall is in 3rd place and not considered a lock for the tournament.
Georgetown, Creighton, Butler, MU, St. John's and DePaul most likely have to win the Big East tournament to get in and only one can do that. I will be very surprised if the the final game is not Villanova, vs. Xavier, which in that case means none of the teams that have to win the tournament do not even get to the final game. Providence plays at Seton Hall tonight. Neither team can afford to lose this game. A Villanova vs. Xavier final will clearly show what is already obvious that those two teams are a step above every one else in the conference. I do think we end up with four bids with the winner of the 4 vs. 5 game getting the fourth bid. I say 20% 3 bids, 60 % 4 bids and 20% 5 bids.

Butler has to win the auto bid to get in???? They will probably get in if they win 2 out of 3 to get to 9-9. Even at 8-10 they could probably get in if they get to the BET final.

Georgetown, SJU or DePaul would have to win the BET to get in. Marquette would PROBABLY have to win it unless they win their next 3, then some possibilities open up. Providence is in even at 8-10. 1 loss non conference to MSU and they beat Arizona.

We're going to get 4-5 teams. Xavier, Nova are locks. Providence is a virtual lock barring a collapse (they still have DePaul and SJU left on the schedule). SHU wins tonight and they should pretty much be in.

If Providence wins tonight, then MAYBE we would get 3 bids. But I'd be shocked with anything less than 4.

Heard Gotlieb say on the Bill Michaels show earlier that if Marquette could beat nova Saturday they would be in the conversation. I don't think he understands what our rpi projections are, but if ever there was a team that passes the "eye test" it would be this one. Just looking at the schedule without understanding the numbers behind the cupcakes we played you would think this would be a bubble team

And that's coming from a hater (Gottlieb)

If Gottlieb of all people thinks we're one win away from being in the conversation, we're probably already a lock.

Isn't the Scoop response supposed to be "Gottlieb is a tool."

Haha. Perfect.

Hey ESPN and the like, keep talking about how LSU (some crazy how) is getting major consideration because of Simmons. If we get close, the committee wouldn't want to miss out on giving a humble farm boy from small town rice lake, population of Ellensons only, who grew up on wheat, unpasteurized milk and soy beans a shot to be in it. Gotta promote their top talent. Or something.

Henry isn't considered by ESPN one of their great talents.    Simmons, who has had multiple games on ESPN, is.
