Disagree.  If the D-league was set up as an MLB style developmental league, more kids would see that as the ideal path to the NBA.  Playing overseas isn't seen by US kids as a path to the NBA; it's seen as a lesser alternative for kids who didn't make it.

There are about 4,000 fewer roster spots in the D-league than in minor league baseball.

Maybe the NBA could create a 1-Round HS/International Draft, similar to the NFL Supplemental Draft and held in March, where an NBA team could draft a HS or International player in the March HS/Int Draft but then they forfeit their corresponding 1st Round pick in the June College Draft. If a HS player who put his name into the HS/Int draft isn't selected, he can go to the college program with which he had signed.

Obviously this system wouldn't be perfect and I'm likely overlooking a few things, but my point is that there are ways to make it work.

I saw it twice in the thread, so I thought I'd clarify.  MLB draft rules do not require a player to go to college for 3 years....it's until age 21.  So a baseball player can be drafted out of HS, JuCo year 1, JuCo year 2, as a rare draft eligible sophomore, as a typical draft eligible junior, as a senior, or as a 5th year senior . 

Regardless, I agree the NBA could benefit from a minor league that's better.
