Markus Howard visit
« on: February 01, 2016, 11:50:09 AM »
Okay, can somebody help clarify when MH will actually be visiting? There was a report on Jan.1 he will be visiting weekend of Feb 26, which would consist of the Villanova home game.

But since (Jan 16), Jerry Meyer of 247 has said MH will visit MU on the 20th (MU @ DePaul that day) & then visit Indiana (plays Purdue that evening at home) the same weekend on the 20th & 21st.

Really hope the the 20th isn't the date

Seems odd that he would visit the weekend of a road game. Seems more likely the staff would want their top target at Natty MU day with likely the biggest crowd of the season. Obviously depends on MH's schedule but I really hope it's the 26th-28th that he visits.

I completely agree. I looked up MH schedule & looks like he has a game on the 25th & 26th, so that might not be the best weekend for him:

And here is the article from Jerry Meyer about MH visiting the 20th:

If he really does visit on the 20th, maybe we can have a Scoop delegation show him around.

When do festivities typically start? He has a 10 pm game in Nevada that Friday night & MU tips off at 1 pm the following afternoon

He'll spend the whole pre-game with the team. Go to the game, go to the Al, etc.

Depending on which year he is classified for, this visit could be official or unofficial. My guess is given the schedule he has outlined it is unofficial.  It appears that this is his second visit to Indiana and his father attended school there.

I have no knowledge of what a recruiting visit typically entails on a game day, in particular NMUDay. He could make it in plenty of time for tip off with an early morning flight on Saturday.

Then plenty of time after the game for the team/coaches to show him around the Al/campus/Renee Row/Murphy's/Real Chili in that order.

It looks like he doesn't have a game between Tuesday the 16th and Thursday the 25th.

My guess is that he will come in Thursday night and hang with the team until they have to leave on Friday.  (I believe they have to be in Chicago 24 hours prior to game time.)  He will then have the rest of the day to visit the campus, probably with Stan Johnson who wouldn't be required to be down to Chicago until later, and will leave Saturday for Indiana.

Agreed, can make it work. Just unfortunated he would be pretty drained for the visit.

Game on Thursday & Friday night with 10 pm starts (12 am central time). Which will finish around 2 am MKE time. Then quickly fly out to MKE in the am to make it for the MU day festivities game. If memory serves right, 4 hours in the air from Vegas / Milwaukee (without lay over).

Both scenarios aren't ideal, but having him visit is a victory in itself

I don't think you can take an official visit off campus.  That's why unofficial makes more sense.

Anyone have a clue when he's visiting, is Rivals (2/26) or 247 (2/20) right? Perhaps BD or Mark Miller can answer this

Really? Come on. Maybe if his dad were the coach (a la Ray McCallum Jr. at Detroit Mercy), but no way you flush that talent down the drain at Central Arkansas. Howard's #34 in the country--he has NBA aspirations so he needs a high-level coaching staff and all the trappings of a quality facility to help him get there.

EDIT: not to mention high-level competition.

Just my opinion

He would get to play with his brother (20 ppg this year) for 2 years & is taking official there in March. Dad said it would be really nice if they played together.

His brother is actually really good. The issue is that he's another short combo guard. Markus is great, and I'd love him to come here, but we don't have room for two more players like that.

according to sports illutrated, jan. 22, 2016-marcus is planning to announce sometime around april-the potential team list, as you will see has changed, since this was posted,  but 6 fer 6 from the arc?  pay da man alice!!!  i'd like to feel some of that right there!

"After dropping 25 points in a 14-point victory over Athlete Institute on Saturday, Howard connected on all nine of his field goal attempts, including 6-for-6 from three-point range, to score 26 points in a 91–67 decision against St. Benedict’s (N.J.) Prep on Sunday. “Today was just a day I was feeling it,” said Howard, who averaged 20.2 points per game"

Acker and Cubillan disagree.

It's not that you can't start two short guards, but then we'd have both Howards, Carter, Rowsey, and Wilson in the 5'11-6'1 range. 5 out of 13 scholarships used on guys under 6'1?

And then you don't have a scholarship for a PF unless you're expecting a transfer out.

MU: Advantage in coach relationship
Baylor: Advantage in playing time
ASU: Hometown school

Everything I've heard is that Howard reclassifying is a virtual certainty. Not finalized yet, but I'd say 99% he ends up a 2016.

For what it's worth, this sports website has Marquette as 33% odds of getting Markus Howard.  The other schools are in the SW at 17% odds.  The website says the MU visit date is Feb 27.

Thanks for sharing.  Damn, I hope we get him.

Kind of hard for me to tell.  Top right picture, is that Johnson on the left and Diener on the right?  And I'm guessing those are family members in the middle picture on the right at the BC?

Pretty sure that's his dad on the left.  Certainly in the pic with Wojo.

Pretty sure that's his dad on the left.  Certainly in the pic with Wojo.

In the main picture with Wojo?  That's Stan Johnson on the left.

247 Crystal Ball now had him at 50% for MU.

Does anybody know what level of USA Basketball Howard played at?  His 247 picture has him in a USA warmup.

And ALL recent predictions.  Jerry Meyer just last Friday.

This feels a lot like Traci last year at this time, especially with all the very kind words by his mom.  I have no idea what's really happening but it 'feels right'. Good luck with whatever Markus decides.

Because?  They have more to offer?  Better fit somehow?

Scott Drew and company are tough to recruit against.  Last visit.

I have no doubt he goes to Central Arkansas because his brother is there.  I would like it if he commits after that visit.

Classic Willie/mazosburger in the replies.

"Holy Tanned Tommy! Did Markus see the pic of the tanned one mouth kissing his teenage son?"

Keep it up mazos

Man that Mazos guy is a weirdo.....he occasionally mentions me on twitter in one of his non-sequitur rants on twitter....not sure what he's trying to accomplish there.

Really have a good feeling about this one. Howard looks damn good in that uniform.

I'm sure he'll take all his visits. He has said he's not committing until April. But I think he's ours to lose.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
