You don't even go to games.

But I'll match whatever contribution you gave to the program this year.

MUDPT

Quote from: Zog from Margo on May 08, 2026, 12:28:34 PMMU never offered. Not sure if they were waiting to see if Kager was sufficiently talented or whether they knew he was a Duke target and outside MU's reach. A number of posters here questioned Kager's ability, but I assume it was the latter. Not sure what the issue is with in-state recruits and MU, but it doesn't matter if you win. UW seems to be having some similar issues with the top in-state players. It's likely just HS players' perception of relative program status. MU and UW are not on the same level as Duke, Gonzaga, ISU, etc.

I see it as Shaka has a good relationship with his family. They told him (maybe mutual?) it wasn't a good fit and MU moved on. Instead of stringing people along, they were both professional about it.

Another one bites the dust.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Shaka needs to show Colton Crowdis the tweet quoting Rick Pitino saying "we're not recruiting any more HS basketball players"

If he's capable of backing Nigel up as early as next season, that would be a huge get.

We've had mixed results from Canada... You've got OMAX (great), Chartouney (horrible), and Junior Cadougan (good?)

Isn't Air Jordan, Nike?  Confused

SchnitzelBoy

In 2026, is there anything quantifiable that suggests a "Nike recruit" will go to a "Nike college" or is this a relic of the pre-NIL era?

Not saying we'd get this kid or not, but going after a 5-sstar is exciting.

Its DJOver

For those missing the context, go back 3 or 4 pages to when Donovan Davis committed to ISU.

tl:dr version, after insiders strongly hinted that he was going to commit to ISU, a poster said that is was solely/largely because of the "shoe" allegiance that he had. The poster then double and tripled down after that idea was dismissed by many.

Do shoe/athletic apparel companies play a role in recruiting, probably. Is it as large as it was pre NIL, probably not. Does anyone here actually know how much any aspect does/doesn't affect a particular recruit, absolutely not. Do people here pretend like they do, absolutely.

Yes.

But the poster Its DJOver is referencing believed a Nike AAU player would never go to a Jordan brand school.

I love making up stuff.

People are just upset the Phenom wants to send its kids elsewhere. And elsewhere is often a nike school.

BCHoopster

Nike starts giving merch at an early age, shoes sweatsuit tees all free. Then if there good enough and there team is good enough they go to Peach jam in Georgia.  By doing this there indoctrinated in the company, then I am sure dollars show up.
