Thought Johnston was a good candidate to redshirt but it looks like he's hitting the weights already.  Much bigger than he was this past summer in AAU.  If he can guard on the wing, there's minutes for him day 1.

I see some chase. Long, strong wing that moves with a steady pace.

Would be great if he has a chase-like career arc imo

This might be a bit of a hot take, but I think Ethan plays more than Alex next year.

I've watched a couple games online, and my number one take away is Ethan is more ready defensively.

Alex looks like he's playing open gym at the Y. No defense, unless he goes for a block or steal.

I like Alex's upside a lot, but I'm expecting a lot of growing pains on defense.

I think Ethan redshirts...........I've watched him too.....he's pretty raw offensively.

Alex......like most high school players.....will have to ramp the motor up in college on defense......I thought the same about Justin Lewis in his senior year.

Ultimately I think Alex will carve out a role.......but they both will need some time to adapt.

Not many are like NJ.

Nash play any D? Seems like all we hear about is his shot.

In one of his weekly shows, Shaka referred that Nash is on an organized weight program for the first time in his life.  IMO, he is probably a one trick pony right now.  He has 10 months before it matters.

I know nothing about Nash but Shaka likes what he sees so far.....

On his radio show tonight

" Nash Walker.......has been REALLY good since he's got here"

Jay Bee

If he makes 10,000 treys this summer on his own, I'd say give him at least 38 mins per game, no questions ax'd.

A long time ago, it was said about Wade.  Perhaps that is what you are referring to in a spirit of optimism.

I hope Shaka is right about Nash and not hyping us like he did Hamilton.

Sigh......yes players sometimes play better in practice and have trouble translating it to games. He was wrong about Hamilton.....just like Crean observations of some players in the Crean and Buzz years turned out to be wrong.

He also talked about Kam as a frosh.......he believed in Kolek and said he was much better than he was playing all during his sophomore season......when many on this board had written him off as a waste of a scholarship ...........

He saw in Oso talents that would later make him an NBA player when he played about 5 minutes his freshman season.

Would you feel better if he said " We're glad to have Nash here.......he's off to a slow start and has had trouble adjusting to this level but he will improve "?

Royce was very thoughtful in his segment on the show.......it was positive about his relationship with Shaka, his growth as a leader this season....his work with Todd Smith.....among other things.

Was that too much hype or was it ok to mention it?

It is a coach's job to hype his players.
