Quote from: Tyler COLEk on November 29, 2024, 08:30:34 PMIs Michael Phillips' recent performance a product of level of competition or is this kid just on an absolute rocketship?

Either way he ain't seeming like the #169 recruit in his class.

It felt like a big reason for that rating was the fact that he reclassed earlier. Interested to hear what those in the know are seeing and hearing

Seems more like another Shaka recruit who just keeps getting better and better and will continue to do so at Marquette.

Im no expert on the competiton level, but he has played against a UNC commit and numerous other P5 level recruits this year, so the competition cant be too bad.

Quote from: GoldenEagles03 on November 25, 2024, 02:56:32 PMExtremely intrigued to see how this ends. Not the typical Shaka target...at least in his time here at Marquette.

1 and Done potential going against Arkansas and Calipari that will be willing to shell out Millions...can culture compete with cash?

Regarding the JJ Andrews discussion, I just read an article on his visit to Mizzou and saw this quote by him.

"I'm really looking for a school, No. 1, I can get a great education from and also be able to develop, not only as a player but as a person," Andrews said. "That's really huge for me, because otherwise you really won't go very far, so that's really important for me. And a place that I feel comfortable and a place where I have a great relationship with the coaching staff and the players and the community around me."

Development? Relationships? Well, JJ, do we have the place for you.

Seems illogical that a player would be dinged to that degree from moving up a year.

Why? That's an entire year of development lost compared to the others in his new class.

I'd take a borderline 5-star talent one year early over a 168th ranked recruit in his expected class. I'd understand if Phillip's ranking dropped from 35 to 90. But 168? I think that's an extra year of age/high school development.

Regardless, I love that Shaka has discovered a new recruiting tactic in the NIL era: coax ascendant young prospects to join college one year sooner by leveraging development and NIL pay.

Where are you getting that Phillips was ranked 35? He was ranked sub 150 by most services. One service had him ranked 33 for a few weeks before he reclassed. That service currently ranks him 101.

You're right, it was 33 at On3. They initially removed him from rankings entirely after he reclassified.
