Maybe. Could be in the next 2-5 years we look back on his recruitment and go "wow, why weren't we on that kid more." Also could be he ends up at Maryland or one of his other finalists and has an unspectacular career and we go "huh, I guess that's why we weren't quick to offer him." Or somewhere in between. Time will tell.

I disagree.  Scoop has been on him since almost May

I really like who we have at the forward position. Oso and Garcia are the kinds of talents that could take us far.

So we miss someone. On to the next dude who wants to be a winner.

Very disappointing a kid so close to Mu campus and with a lot of high major offers, and we whiff completely, not even a finalist.

Very happy with the outstanding recruiting our coaching staff has done.

As for being a finalist ... our coaching staff has been there numerous times with better recruits, and when those recruits go to bluebloods, some Scoopers complain then that we shouldn't have been wasting our time on those recruits.

Lots of folks like to complain even as our coaching staff does an outstanding job pursuing and landing fine players.

Auburn, Madison, Maryland and Memphis.  At least UW fans will be able to recycle old posts about how he couldn't get into UW and accusing other schools of cheating when he decides to go elsewhere.

To be fair, three of those schools have very recent cheating scandals.

When did we first start recruiting him? Has he been on a visit?

It’s still early in his process.

He just did a virtual visit with Marquette. He visited Villanova last October and Maryland in February. (unofficially) Marquette started recruiting him at a high priority level this past Spring and Summer.

Always subject to change, he is also interested in Maryland, Seton Hall, Villanova, North Carolina. Marquette, Seton Hall, and Maryland have offered so far, not yet for Villanova and North Carolina. Florida, Michigan, Georgetown have also shown a lot of previous interest and two of those have offered. He is about a year or more away from a commitment somewhere.

Definitely getting in early on this kid. 2022 PF, according to 247 his only offers are Bryant and Holy Cross. Killings is the lead on him, he seems to have an eye for talent. Hopefully being the first high major in there pays off.

Here's a link with multiple highlight videos, looks like he has a nice stroke with 6'9" size:

Rick Pitino and Iona also offered him this past week.

This Spring he had 21, 12, 5 in a state semifinal loss after earlier making two free throws with less than 5 seconds left to win the district title by a point, which followed a 39 point effort before that.

TJ is also a promising left handed baseball pitcher. (He shoots a basketball right handed)

Be nice if he would be coached out of bringing the ball down below the belt before shooting.

He’ll be a defensive specialist. When a player on the other team gets hot, he throw a brushback pass.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Would like to see some of these local guys (Hunter, Graham, Joplin, Sibley) stay home, but it's a result of the staff's national recruiting focus. Being able to recruit locally seems to help stabilize the baseline of a program, there's always a stream of talented players to count on. In a good basketball city like Milwaukee, it probably provides even more than just solid filler or program guys.

That said, I don't have any problems with Wojo's recruiting.

He needs to make that pause in his motion to avoid being called for the balk.

I'm not sure the bolded is actually the case.  Marquette has had a lot of transfers out from local guys.

It ain't empirical fact, but I would think the hometown school has an advantage both in early scouting (assuming good contacts in the area) and appeal to recruits. I don't lament the Jalen Johnsons of the world going to Duke, but I'd like to believe they'd spot a Tyrese Hunter or James Graham earlier than other programs and reel them in with the allure of playing near home. My hope is that you spot a four-year player that helps stabilize the program every few years.

Again, not a criticism of the staff, nor proven to bear out, but it would seem there are some built in advantages to being in a basketball-rich region. Hoping Wojo and company can capitalize.

Not so much?  Burton was a special case.  McKay was a mistake.  Wilson spent 4 years here and grad transferred when it was obvious his PT was going to be limited.

That can work both ways, too. They see a kid early and decide they aren't a fit for whatever reason.  Keeps tabs on them, recruit them, but recruit others harder. That make a whole lot more sense to me than they just missed a kid who is in their backyard.
