Per Corey Evans, Marquette has offered 2020 6-3 PG Zeb Jackson from Ohio.

Rivals ranks him 88th.

Clever. Ohio State picks up the PG we were targeting in 2019...so Wojo goes after the PG Ohio State was targeting in 2020 figuring he might not like the roster outlook in Columbus.

Dwayne Killings did coach at Temple. He's got Philly contacts. Marquette has offered a few Philly kids since DK has been hired.

So, yes, I do think there is a Dahmir, Killings connection.

OK, nice to hear.

How's a kid from Ohio going to end up at Marquette?

Agree.  Tough sell.  Wojo has greatly exceeded my expectations on the recruiting trail.  He's got a really good collection of young talent in the program.  McEwen will be a very good player for MU and will have two years of eligibility starting 2019-2020.  Hard to get a player at PG to come in knowing there is a proven, 4th year guy at your position with two years of eligibility left.

Agree 100%.

Others are upset about missing out on Carton.

Believe the key comment is that Carton would be the "candidate to succeed" Simpson as point guard after his freshman year at Michigan. These kids that blow up in rankings don't want to wait and succeed, they want to start immediately.

If MU was in picture, then Carton would have in all likelihood been the same with Howard and McEwen.  At Ohio State, he probably starts on day one.

So does it look like Wojo has decided to offer a lot of 2020 guards? Is that a function of the recruiting calendar or is it a reaction to losing out on 2019 targets?

I suspect it's the calendar. We have a ton of offers out for 2020. While the most recent offers of Burnett and Jackson came after missing on 2019 guys, we did already have PG offers out beyond Mannion, such as Greer and Beekman.

Morrow helps that, but if we're being honest Chicagoland has been down in recent years.

The best prospect coming out of the area is Max Christie from Rolling Meadows. Notre Dame also had a really good Freshman class and one or two of those kids could become a D1 player.

My son still has eligibility left. Used to be a pretty good player.

Side note, believe it or not Payton is going to be very, very good next season.

Back to real recruiting, if you look at the make-up of this squad.  3 from Wisky, 3 from Detroit and 2 from Minny.  Stan brought 2 kids with him and maybe a third in
McEwen.  The two transfers saw opportunities that are interesting but 1 from Chicago.  So 9 are within real driving distance and know more about MU.  Look at Wojo's
offers, all over the country.  I understand if MU was a tourny team and others saw that, but not sure if Wojo or MU is a name brand yet, next 2 years are very important,
but I will be really impressed with Wojo's recruiting when he signs a 4 or 5 star out of the area.  2020 will be big,  4 solid players leaving, big difference for out of town
kids to see playing team right away, thoughts?  I think he lost his top 3 for 2019 already.  But time to re-group.  Really like a big more than a guard but it seems MU
is not looking at any yet.

Because it's still the 70's.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

It's a six hour drive to Detroit and five hour drive to Minneapolis. What do you consider local?

I thought we established that anything more than one state line was not local.  The Detroit trio come down through the UP to stay 'local', otherwise MU would be too far from home
