Upon further review
At MU's media availability session early Monday evening in advance of the Golden Eagles' upcoming game at Wisconsin, the ill will surrounding the end of the UWM drubbing was brought up once again.

As if anybody needed their memory refreshed, Panthers coach Rob Jeter was apparently peeved that Tom Crean didn't call the dogs off sooner in what wound up being a 100-65 MU victory.

Anyway, Crean was asked to respond to Jeter's comments following the game. Here's what he had to say, in its entirety:

"I saw what was in the paper the other day and I don't know how to take that. When the word 'person' comes up, you're going to take a special attention to that. I would just say this: in my nine years here, starting with the very first year, this whole thing has been built over controversy, over drama, and (if) the last five minutes want to be played out as drama and controversy, it doesn't make any difference to me.

"If that is the tone - and I'm not saying that it is; I wasn't in the pressroom, I wasn't asking questions - that would border on ridiculous to me, it really would. Let's focus on the first 35 minutes of the game. Let's focus on the fact that we played a 40-minute game. Our team played to win. They don't come to Marquette with the object of playing UWM every year in their mind, OK?

"There's a motivational factor that goes in...we set some things inside of that game numerically that we wanted to be able to do to the to the top two players defensively, but more importantly the fact that we wanted to draw four charges in that game. We had drawn four charges in the first 200 minutes of our season. We drew four charges in the last 12 1/2 minutes. That's where the excitement was.

"I don't know, I'm not on that side. They have their own house to take care of, we've got our own house to take care of, we'll see you next year. After nine years, it never seems to end. And that's why there was really not a lot of interest in playing the game for so long. There really isn't. But I haven't had anything be said to me directly on their side of it, and so we've got to move on. And we have, as a team.

"You asked the question, so I'll answer it. When does the drama end? We played the game, good luck to you, good luck to us and we'll see you next year."

Not sure how to post link but the fans over at the panther board are really peeved about the coach's most recent comments.

They claim that Crean cursed the UWM assistants and their wives, too!

Unless Crean came out of the tunnel after shaking Jeter's hand?  doesn't make sense so it's  not true.

After nailing him for years of being bland, I'm waiting for PRN to step and nail Crean for being childish after reading this.

Crean said "SAVE IT" not one utterance of a swear.  UWM fans just can't handle the truth of the matter and I can see why Crean had no interest in scheduling this game in the first place.

These are some of the same aholes on the UW and UWM boards that claim Crean Loves Cancer because last year he wore black tennis shoes instead of white tennis shoes on the day all coaches wear tennis shoes to support cancer research.

So don't be surprised if it was totally made up.  Swenson posted a link on their board on this as well, of course when you go to the blog that supposedly had the link it's been deleted.

It is so refreshing to hear a public figure say what is on his mind, especially when it is so reasonable and reflects reality in the first place. Thank you, Tom Crean.

I agree with Muwarrior87... i was the closest student to Crean when he talked to the UWM fans, he said nothing more than "Save It"

Agreed,
How many kids from the East Coast, Texas, or Chicago look forward to playing UWM?  And actually many of them probably don't care about UW.

Anyways, I'm glad Crean tried to put this to rest but I'm sure UWM and Probably some people on this site will continue to ride this thing.

I don't think I ever used the word "bland." Dick Jauron is bland. Mike Sherman is bland. I've said he has zero charisma. And he doesn't.

I do like his feistiness in this instance, however.

Uggg....

My hope is that this is just a few fanatical people that are still obsessing about this (ourselves included).

First, it's "MU needs to play UWM" "What are they, chicken?"

Then, when MU plays UWM and beats them, it's "They aren't very classy" and "They ran it up".

Honestly, to the people who are saying this stuff, please stop. Admit that you don't care for MU or MU hoops (whatever the reason), and let's leave it at that. Not everybody likes MU. That is aok. Not everybody needs to like MU.

These veiled shots at MU about "class" by anti-MU people are getting tiresome.

If UW blew UWM out, we wouldn't here a peep about it. (nor should you)

I like what I hear about Rob Jeter, but his approach at the press conference is disappointing. I can't blame him, his team just got destroyed... but it would have been nice if he hadn't implied that he was upset with MU's approach.

the only thing that upset me was how long james and mcneal were in the game.
It's not about ME,
It's about US.

I think the media just needed a story.  No reason for them to bring it up again when the press conference was intended for the UW game.

I do love how coach responded though!  Well done TC!  :D
