MU Players in NBA Summer League
« on: July 04, 2015, 01:38:33 PM »
The NBA Summer League began yesterday, and here's a list of former MU players playing this year.

Trent Lockett - Indiana Pacers
Dwight Buycks - Los Angeles Lakers
Jamil Wilson - Washington Wizards

*Liam McMorrow - Los Angeles Clippers
*D.J. Newbill - Los Angeles Clippers

The summer league just started and continues throughout July with some teams not playing until the end of July. I assume this means that some teams are still filling out their rosters and that Blue, Gardner, Carlino, and maybe some others will get a chance. Heck, if Josh Gasser and Duje Dukan (Nets and Hornets, respectively) can make rosters I sure hope some Marquette players can...

awesome. I just ranked the top 37 on Cracked Sidewalks, and I really want to make it a top 40! However, Ellenson can wait a few years please.

Watched a bit of McMorrow today.  I think he's got backup NBA talent.  Can't coach 7' 2".

My memory has faded.  Was he the MU guy with health issues?

Maybe he can beat out Rose for the starting PG position. One can hope.

He'd have to beat out Aaron Brooks first and that ain't happening either.

Wishful thinking. Anything to push Rose away from the Bulls.

Buycks was the only one who played on the first day of the Vegas summer league, and it didn't go so well.

19 min  0 pts  0-5 fga  1 reb  2 stl  3 TO.

Blue, Jerel, Buycks, and Jamil all play today.

That might be all she wrote for his NBA career.

Does anyone know if Newbill filled out his application to play for the Clippers?

Watching Vander Blue playing for the Bulls and I'm not seeing anything that indicates he has any sort of prolonged future in the NBA.

Completely agree, but he is making a couple headlines: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=13280824

Vander is the only guy left with a high ceiling among the MU FAs.
Followed by Buycks then Lockett and Jamil.
I think Jerel's at the end of his opportunity. If he could play in Europe or Asia, he'd do well financially for himself.

I have to think Buycks has done well for himself.  One full year in the NBA, and a couple of decent seasons in Europe have hopefully added up to a decent bank account.

I dunno. Id much rather have Vander as the Bulls 3rd PG/SG option rather then Hinrich.

Especially if he had a bonus clause in his contract for that MVP trophy.

Probably correct.  Pleased that he saw some court time last year.  He'll always have that.  Absolutely time to maximize the paycheck.  Good luck Jerel.

What???? :o

You must have bumped your head. Vander should be on an NBA roster right now.

Hinrich at this stage does not hold a lit candle to Blue now. But Hoilberg won't cut him. Isn't Hinrich from Iowa? That would be a hard cut.

Blue is better than most 3rd string guards on 80% of the teams in the league what are you typing about?

He has IMPROVED. I only wish the Bucks would invite him in instead of the darn Bulls.

I would be highly perturbed if they have both Jimmy B and Vander on that team being our arch rivals.

But I can't understand your sarcastic comment that "that might be saying more about Hinrich than Vander." What the hell does that mean?

If you are making a smart remark about Vander Blue you need to do your homework. He has elevated his game. I know, I have seen him and taken note. He is a Pro.

Don't go by what you see in this Summer League for Vander...don't be silly and short-sighted if you are an NBA scout. And many of us are not but we have eyes if not bias.

That young man can play. I think the world of his internal fortitude and how he plays the game and bets on himself.

He's done well. He has ironed out the kinks in his jumper as far as the shot slot and is following through well and has even increased his range from the college 3pt line to the NBA 3pt line.

He guards, he moves well, and has gotten stronger attacking the paint and he he is willing to learn, wait, and be coached.

He is also what seems to be a guy who is a great teammate and every team he has gone on he seems to blend in well with other guys he is competing with for a spot which shows good competitive character and spirit.

You can go to war with him. He still has time. Keep working V!

You all laugh...but I guarantee you that Jimmy Butler told someone to take a look at Vander and they might keep him due to Jimmy.

Vander Blue is no scrub people and Jimmy is the Bulls max player now too, and they might do it if to keep Butler happy.

You can move Aaron Brooks....he has value. I say they bring Vander to training camp and Brooks is gone.

Another thing is I think they [Reinsdorf]are trying to work that rivalry with the Bucks by having two guys we know and who played here who they know we are attached to outfit their team like we have Parker.

That means $$$ ...I won't like it one bit to see Blue and Butler on the Bulls because then I will have to be . . . 'divided' in my allegiance when they do play. I hate that.

That is why love and hate every time Wade comes back here...then I have to become impartial. But don't be surprised if Blue stays.

That is the furthest thing from how professional franchises operate.  And even if they did operate as such (which, again, it couldn't be more off), Jimmy just signed a 5 year deal in Chicago, so he's not going anywhere.  They don't have to do anything to make him happy.  He has 92 million reasons to be happy.

Now, if only Vander sticks with the Bulls...

What exactly is partial guaranteed deal? What exactly does it mean for his future with the Mavs? I can guess they will pay him something but as far as making the team does it carry any weight? Comparable to Trents deal?

Most likely means portions of the contract are contingent on him accomplishing various feats, most importantly making the team out of training camp.

Or some money is already guaranteed, which is likely a check for being at camp.

IIRC, the NBA does have a deadline at some point in their calendar where every contract becomes guaranteed, but I want to say it's not until February or so.

Correct on both, as I understand it, although I think the cutoff date is early January. Could be wrong.

Something like that.  This sounds like DJO's Lakers contract a couple years ago.  He was on the team in the Fall and then sent to the D League before he had to be paid for the full year.
