Bucky Basketball graduates
« on: May 17, 2015, 08:26:58 PM »
So my cousin the Bucky fan posted an article on Facebook about Frank Kaminsky and Josh Gasser graduating, but it did not mention the other seniors on the team - Traevon Jackson and Duje Dukan.

Does anyone here know if they graduated or not?
Have some patience, FFS.

Not sure about Traevon Jackson but Dukan graduated last year and is currently getting his Master's.

Jackson (and Dekker) did not come back to school after the Final Four.

That's not going to help their graduation stats. Especially for African American basketball players.

In their defense, they are working for the NBA, not a college degree at this point.

JFB, Crowder, DJO and Lazar all did the same thing.

Completely agree, unless as a fan base you hang your hat on players graduating and being so academically profound and superior to other schools.

As did Looney. Very common for those completely set enterin' the draft to get prepared, not only for the Combine and individual workouts, but also for dealin' with the media, press and team interviews.

I understand why guys who are NBA bound or borderline NBA draft picks want to skip school like Jackson and Decker. Makes perfect sense given the money at stake and their "profession."  I would encourage this and I think we all see it as necessary in todays game.

However, to those who don't care about graduation rates for MU and think it is all about winning, you are in for some heartburn.  There is a reason Buzz didn't have much support and it wasn't lack of winning on the court.  Wojo gets the balance that is required at MU and will pass on plenty of players that Buzz would have taken at MU.  I like it.  We may have missed a big one this spring due to lack of interest by Wojo, but he is more about team building and you have to take academics seriously.  A longer term out look as well, over rebuilding every year.  It should be interesting to see how it works out, but it seems to be the right way and the way MU has traditionally done things.  As an institution and fan base, I'm glad most care about what happens to these guys after they leave and about getting a degree.

It makes sense for a player who is a sure fire first rounder and an underclassman who isn't a month away from getting his degree.  Jackson must not be on pace to get his degree after this year, or else he is making a huge mistake.  He's going to play overseas for a few years and then come back without a degree and without having made enough money to be set for life.  He sure as heck is never playing in the League.  Get your degree and then do your overseas workouts when you have that out of the way kid.

One quibble, both DJO and JFB graduated and walked the same Spring as they entered the draft. Only Crowder and Zar failed to do so.

Your larger point stands. MUBB's grad rates are about to plummet, once the Buzz cohort beings being counted.
