Fitzgerald -- Hand Surgery?
« on: November 29, 2007, 01:57:35 PM »
My finance professor mentioned that Fitz is having hand surgey, but that's all he said.  Anyone know what's up with that?

Is this a joke? We won't see a man-to-man defense the rest of the year!

I heard it too.  Just that he had hand surgery today, nothing about which hand, how he hurt it, or how long he's expected out.

Why would your finance professor know this? And, did he announce this in class when recapping chapter 12 or did he confide this to you in private?

Maybe Crean will address it on his 5 PM radio show?  Any one in Milwaukee who can listen and let us know?

EDIT: I guess it's a TV show on Channel 32 in Milwaukee.  It is on at 5 PM according to the Dodds board.

I think you meant TV show .. and I highly doubt it .. I'm sure the show was taped day(s) ago.  His radio shows:

Nov. 5 will mark the first radio broadcast and the show will continue through March. Tentative show dates, subject to change, are Nov. 5, Nov. 26, Dec. 3, Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Jan. 14, Jan. 21, Jan. 28, Feb. 11, Feb. 18 and March 3.

Fitzgerald is in our class (obviously he wasn't today), and the professor was telling Fitzgerald's group members that he was having surgery, so they might have trouble getting ahold of him to work on their group project, and they'll have to work something out.

isn't that a violation of fitz's hippa rights?

No, it isn't.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule pertains to three categories of covered entities - health care providers, health plans, and health care clearinghouses. Finance professors do not fall within the guidelines.

Finance Profs are impacted those rules -- we received a directive from our administration just yesterday concerning what we can tell students about other students.

My biggest problem in this area involves parents who want to know grades and tests results.

It might be a bad idea for a professor to tell others about the health of one of his students, but it's not covered by HIPAA.

Well it's important for students depending on someone for a huge semester project to know what's going on if someone goes MIA for a few days so close to the deadline.  Though it may have been better to tell a few students privately instead of announcing it in front of the whole class.

If this is true, wtf is up with the injuries to this team?!  The way Fitz shot the ball in Maui we really need that spark off the bench...and to keep the defenses honest...perfect timing for WI...good lord.  Hopefully it's relatively minor.

Yes they are covered by HIPPA.  The University is covered and therefor a professor for the school, while acting in the their capacity as a professor, is an agent of the school and HIPPA applies.

How about the night watchman? or the cook? or a clerk? seems to me that the buck has to stop with people in an official capacity------otherwise it qualifies as a simple rumor!

I saw Fitz at 11 today between classes. I do every Tuesday and Thursday. When was this finance class he missed?  he didn't appear to have anything indicating a recent surgery unless it was after that.

What's to miss?

Fitz rarely had the balls to take over a game with his 3 pt shooting - the last game excluded.

He doesn't play post defense and doesn't shoot the ball...there's nothing really to miss here.

No, he was karate chopping a board and got a deep splinter.  Needed to be taken out surgically.

Would that really make a big difference? Fitz is pretty high profile. If one person hears that he's hurt, 95% percent of the campus will know within 24hrs.

It can be frustraing sometimes to watch him hesitate to shoot the ball when he's open.  But when he shoots with confidence, it adds a whole new dimension to our offense with our guards driving and kicking.  It won't be a big deal at all if he's out for UW-M, but I hope he's back by next Saturday.

Did Dan Fitzgerald injure his left wrist?

The MU boards are buzzing about a rumored wrist injury to 6'8" senior Dan Fitzgerald.    The rumor was first posted by MU_Freak on MUScoop yesterday.  On the Marquette Hoops site, there is a similar thread with consistent information.Nothing official from MU at this point.BTW, UW-M moved tonight's game watching party from the Klotsche Center to the Union due to lack of interest.  Remember, this is a game the fans want.

I don't think that's a safe assumption.  I don't even think 95% of the campus knows who he is.  There are way more people who have little or no interest in the basketball team than you think.
