The petty taunt and sarcasm above -- "Thanks, Bert." -- makes Marquette and all of us look silly and small.

Are we really blaming Buzz Williams for the outcome of this year's season? If yes, we really feel the need to proclaim it in such an infantile way?

Wojo is our guy and our coach. He has just finished a really tough, surprisingly difficult, unexpectedly unsuccessful first season, from which he has undoubtedly learned plenty and grown as a man and a coach.

Why this need to wallow in the memories of Buzz Williams, who is LONG GONE?

I do not know if Buzz Williams left Marquette or if he, for some reason, was told to leave Marquette. I only know that I like Wojo a lot and feel no need to care about or be reminded almost constantly of Buzz Williams' relatively short stint as head coach.

Please remove "Thanks, Bert." from atop this page.

wadesworld

Who else would we blame for this season? The only guy Wojo recruited to Marquette University for this past season ended up on 2nd Team All Big East even after missing 5 games. The reason we had a horrible season is because of Bert. So, thanks Bert.

Agreed, the obsession that some people have with our former coach is sad

You really feel the need to "blame" this season's outcome on anyone, wadesworld?

That is f****** pathetic!

Profound ... dude.

Right on mu avenue. We are past the first phase of rebuilding the program. No need to have petty blame and hatred like you said. Enjoy the stress free offseason with youtube mixtapes of recruits!

Still better than your initial one in this topic.  HTH.

Yeah, I agree. Remove it and replace with "thank you phony cowboy who pledged to be at MU as long as they would have him". Leave it up there permanently so that the Buzz slurpers, all 7 of them, have lasting memories. This obviously strikes home to their fantasies.

unexpectedly unsuccessful first season

You thought this season was going to be successful? After losing 70% of the scoring from the season before, where we still didn't make the tournament? Were you on crack all year?

chapman

While we're at it, replace SoG Tally with ELoNT Tally.

Blackhat

Are we chalking up next year as a disaster too?   I don't care who anybody wants to blame, to feel better.  Just fix the damn thing.

The vitriol for both Tom Crean and Buzz Williams is beyond the pale. It's like some here take pleasure in bashing these guys and I just don't get it. I always look forward not back. They both have had their best success as coaches while at Marquette that should be enough for any of us to appreciate. Now it's time to move on.

Another nominee for meme..."Vitriol is beyond the pale"..usually reserved for posts that critique Buzz Williams, Derrick Wilson, or Tom Crean.

Some here clearly share an adolescent need to comment constantly on Buzz Williams while blaming him for how Marquette played this year. This makes no sense to me, but whatever. ...

While I do not even understand some of the posts under this topic, it is clear that certain "regulars" at this site are weirdly focused on Buzz Williams, which is completely disrespectful of the man chosen to succeed Williams and lead Marquette basketball into the future.

Blame Buzz Williams all you want. He does not give a damn about you, your feelings or, perhaps, Marquette basketball.

Wojo is the future. I only care about that.

Lighten up, Francis. This board is supposed to be fun, not super serious. It's supposed to be playful, not real life.

FWIW, I actually appreciated Buzz's contributions to the program, and Crean's too. But I see nothing wrong with having fun with it.

Me? I personally blame Obama!

As for Wojo's "surprisingly difficult, unexpectedly unsuccessful first season" ... to you, perhaps. It's your opinion and certainly not a fact. I expected almost exactly what we got. In fact, I'm pleasantly surprised with how we stayed in almost every game against vastly superior opposition.

I couldn't care less whether Buzz Williams "gives a damn" about me, my feelings, or Marquette basketball, and I certainly don't expect him to "give a damn" (funny that you talk about adolescent needs).  Good for him.

Buzz Williams's roster is the one that went 13-19 this season.  Only so much a coach can do when inheriting an entire roster from a former coach.  In my opinion, Wojo did a very good job of setting a standard that players need to live up to and letting those who weren't up to it leave.  Once that was all sorted out, he got those who were willing to put in the work to work hard and compete every night.  You're trying to argue Bert has no fault in this season.  You're entitled to your opinion.  My opinion that he is very, very largely to fault for this season, given that it was his players out on the basketball court, does nothing to disrespect Wojo.  Nothing at all.

Listen, you can call me "f****** pathetic" (again, funny considering you are the one saying others have adolescent needs here) for "needing to blame the season on someone."  You're the one who started this thread and brought up blame in the first place.

Let's relax a little here.

I'm guessing Buzz also doesn't care enough to ever look at Scoop, so I'm sure he'll never see it. Complete non issue.

Those certain "regulars " you refer to should most definitely refer to the ones that blindly defend the cowboy constantly, also.

Autoengineer

The only thing I'm bitter about is the recruits he basically stole.  Namely Pierce and Hill.  Those guys committed to MU.  Not Buzz.  I realize that MU did the right thing in letting them out of their commitments but it doesn't change my opinion.  Its one thing to leave after a down year, but then take recruits with you.  Low class.
