Thank you, finally someone with some sense. These Deapaul wins are bad for evryone.

Oliver Purnell begs to differ.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Ohhh I always forget the transitive property of hoops.  Dammit!!  Now Lehigh is better than half the Big East!

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that Lehigh is better than half the Big East. However certainly should be able to understand the point that with seven non-conference losses DePaul is not going to qualify for the NCAA tournament and every loss they put on a conference team with tournament potential is going to hurt that team's chances.

We could easily be in the same position (or better). This is a fluke, and bad for the league, as people have said. They beat us by 3, won @X by 3, beat St. John's in OT. Had they lost to us, and we win the X & St. John's games that came down to the last minute, it would be us that people were talking about as the surprise team. The only difference being: we would actually have a shot at an at-large bid with a 5-1 league record.

When DePaul is in first place, your league isn't any good

When a Tom Crean coached team is tied with Wisconsin for first, your league isn't any good.

Isn't the traditional Scoop response supposed to apply here:

Doug....

One of arguably the best years of college basketball (2004) featured a Conference USA that put 6 teams into the tournament (would have been 7 if Travis didn't get assaulted by that tackling dummy). Who was one of the first place teams in the conference? DePaul.

Didn't know he was still doing stuff.  How about that.  And if you follow him on twitter, that makes me a little sad for your life.

I will just be surprised if many New Big East teams make the NCAA tournament past the first weekend.  They are benefiting by having no horrible teams.  But they have only 1 good team.   I think many of their teams belong in the NIT.

Yes, well, I was being quite ridiculous.  Just like having a thread every time DePaul wins to tell them to stop winning.  Teams that want to make the tournament should make sure they beat DePaul if they have no chance.  Personally, I kind of think they still have a chance (albeit very slim--but much better than a month ago).  How many top 100 wins is too many to ignore?  They have 5 already with 10 more chances.  They have 4 top 50 wins.  Same as Duke, same as Villanova, more than Wisconsin, OSU has none.

I'm not saying they are in the tourney.  But I think we have to look at the possibility that a loss to them isn't toxic this year.  It isn't like losing to them a couple years ago when their RPI was over 200.  They have a pretty good chance to at least get to a top 100 team.  That makes them a good win, not a bad loss.

And if you think this is terrible because the Big East was going to get 7 teams in, well, there was bound to be some attrition.

Couldn't the exact same sentence apply to the New Big Ten?  To the SEC? (well, except I guess that the big ten does have terrible teams.) The Big East appears to have one Final Four caliber team, Villanova.  The Big Ten has Wisconsin.  The SEC has Kentucky.  Sure come tourney time other teams can make runs, but I don't think it is at all unique to have one elite team and then a bunch of good teams.

DePaul being bad out of conference then being good in conference makes the big east appear weak.

Everytime I watch a Big East game, the conference appears weak.

Well, we are not in the same position. We lost. Who the heck cares how close the losses are. If we had Coach K we would an Elite program. He is not our coach. We did not win the games you referenced. The reality is we are what we are, a team that hopefully does not finish last in the conference.

Then watch some of the other conferences.   Except for the few elite teams at the top, there is a whole lot of weak out there this year.

Wisconsin is benefiting by having a ton of horrible teams in their league. Other than Maryland, no one in that league looks very good. Sure, some teams will get in just by the nature of the game, but does anyone really think Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, or Iowa are that good? I thought Ohio State was decent, but they're barely scraping by against some mediocre opposition.

I don't know that I've ever been so unimpressed with your league. If not for Maryland joining, you guys would be a one trick pony bolstered up by a huge pile of drek.

We are both bad teams. DePaul has gotten relatively lucky in conference thus far, we have not. I'll be relatively shocked if DePaul finishes with a conference record above .500. My mind will also be blown if we do the same.

68 teams make the tournament? Have you watched much CBB this year? Most teams aren't good.  There are maybe 20 good teams, and then about 80 mediocre teams.  The Big East have 1 in the top 20, and then 7 or 8 in the next 40.  That's a pretty good conference.  5 teams is the likely the minimum.

Duke is at St. Johns tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.  Now I'm going to root for the Johnnies as hard as I do for MU tomorrow, just to ram it up the arse of that prick Gottlieb.

He should go back to spanking to pornhub.com videos like, apparently, everyone else at ESPN does.

RushmoreAcademy

Good for DePaul.  It had gotten so bad that it's hard not to root for them when playing teams who aren't us.

Depaul up by 10 over Xavier at the half. Will shoot 2 free throws before the second half begins due to a technical called after time ran out.

Did you see something there that warranted a technical?

Looked like a Xavier player deliberately pushed a Depaul player as/after the clock ran out.

I did, a Depaul player intentionally flopped to try to get a call.  That should be a technical on the Depaul guy in my book.
