Over the Rhine is just a scary area.  All sorts of crime down there all the time.  Been down there half a dozen times, car got broken into on one of the occasions.  If you go, go with a big group and don't drive.

I'm going to venture a guess and assume you have not visited OTR recently. While there are still parts of the neighborhood with crime, the gentrified area is beautiful, clean, and safe. As mentioned earlier, Mt. Adams is a great choice for night life. The Banks (Holy Grail, Toby Keith's, Moerlein Lager House) and Newport (Hofbrauhaus, etc.), KY are also good options.

Should this have been in teal? It it weren't for the University, it would certainly be a bad area. Campus itself and its outlying off campus housing are protected by DPS/MPD, but you don't have travel far in any direction other than east (particularly north and west) to find yourself in a highly undesirable part of town.

No. I've never felt that on or around campus. Maybe Im just used to it and it doesn't affect me since I grew up in Chicago.

Yeah there are still bad patches but OTR is not what it used to be. Rhinegeist is a pretty cool brewery that has opened up in the area recently. Plus new places have been opening for the last year.

I wouldn't consider Marquette in a bad area at all. Don't get where that comes from.

Probably all the shootings, stabbings, and robberies within 10 blocks of campus.

Dude I grew up at Montrose and Kostner in Chicago till I was 16 and you wouldn't hear me say MU's not in a bad area.  Is it like Robins Lawndale or Englewood? No but it's bad enough to call it a less than favorable neighborhood.  If it wasn't we A) Wouldn't get plenty of alerts about muggings, burglaries, and the occasional shooting/stabbing.  B) Wouldn't have such an obnoxiously big and effective campus police force with Blue light phones and military grade cameras all over the surrounding area.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Just called Dana Gardens and they open at 10 on Saturday so that will probably be our plan unless someone comes up with something better since it's close to the Cintas Center.

Sounds good. We'll try to get there earlier than we initially thought and a grab a beer.

I'll try to convince my crew to head there too. I'll be the guy in the gold "Notre Dame Is French For Our Bitch" shirt.

Have spent some vague nights on Montrose, a lot for sure, but do not recall Kostner. I was never mugged there so I am guessing I never strolled/staggered in that neighborhood.

I'll be there as part of a group of 4. Heading over the river to Kentucky for some postgame festivities.

Win or lose, either way, I get to drink bourbon.

There is a microbrewery called Listermann's across the street (Dana Avenue) from Xavier. It's a small place, but the beer is good. It opens at 10 am on Saturdays.

I think someone already mentioned Dana Gardens, nothing wrong with that place. There's also a bowling alley/bar just off the X campus called Stone's Lanes though i'm not sure when it opens.

Also, if you're looking to go out on the town I recommend OTR or Mt. Adams. Downtown is pretty dead, but there are some bars between the Reds and Bengals stadiums in an area called The Banks. If you really want to go off the beaten path, there's a part of town called Northside (10-15 minutes west of Xavier). There are some nice bars and restaurants there (Django, Northside tavern, Barrio), including a great bourbon bar called Littlefield.

I don't particularly like going to Kentucky, but if generic bars like Brothers or Hooters are your thing then that's a good place to go. Beware (good or bad) you can still smoke in bars in Kentucky.

Our plan for tonight is to go to Mainstrasse in Kentucky. Anyone have some inside info on this place? I've been out in Cinci a bunch so I'm kinda looking forward to seeing what KY has to offer.

A lot of good memories from Dana's Gardens. Enjoy and bring home a W!!
