The Brewers, at 19-13 (a .594 winning percentage), are on pace to win 96 games.  Their remaining 130 games will consist of a mix of good teams and crappy teams.  If they continue to sweep through the crappy teams, they won't have to win so many against the good teams to maintain this pace.

I'd rather feast on the 3, 4, and 5 place teams and struggle against the 1 place teams in divisions.  Mathematically there are a lot more 3, 4, and 5 place teams in the MLB than 1 place teams.

Also, the Brewers offense has been bad when it's been cold and good when it's been hot since I was born.  The fact that the Brewers are 19-13 through a "cold" month is a good sign.  The pitching has been good, the offense has been the issue.  The offense will heat up and if the pitching can stay close to where it is the Brewers will be in good shape.

If the Brewers can hang around and Nelson comes back close to what he was last year, that's adding a huge piece without giving anything up.  If that happens I can see Stearns making a move for a number 1 or 2 starter midseason.  Nelson, Anderson, pitcher in trade, Davies, and Woodruff/Suter/Miley should be a good enough rotation with the bullpen and offense.  Could also be adding Thames back to the lineup late season for nothing.

The Brewers won't win 86 games, let alone 96.

And if you had quills you'd be a porcupine ... but you don't.

You don't, right?

I just said that to show how it’s a small sample size. If 3 games go a different way, the stat looks very different.

I think the Cubs are better than the Brewers and will show it over the course of the season. They’ve certainly shown that in the two series they've played. The Brewers offense needs to be more consistent and they have to limit the boneheaded defensive plays if they want to be anything more than a .500 team.

True, but they overachieved last year.

Up-to-date projections...

FanGraphs: 82-80
Five Thiry-Eight: 86-76
Baseball Prospectus: 87-75

Not making it to 86 wins doesn't seem ridiculous. The Brewers are an above-average team.
