@GoodmanESPN: "@JRengstorf: @GoodmanESPN  Can Buzz finish above 500 in his first year at VaTech" Nope — even though its cupcake city in non-league slate.

I agree, I think and hope that the hokies will struggle

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Runnin' interference for when Bumstead finishes 5 above .500 and over achieves, aina?

You don't say? I thought for sure they were instant ACC title contenders when they hired Brent and Satchel decided to join him.

Kidding aside, it would be nice to have Satchel's length on this year's team.

Whenever I see a thread about Buzz or VT I classify it as trolling. It absolutely will devolve into the petty personal rivalries between posters that are ruining the board. It also has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the team that we actually are here to discuss.

So, bravo troll, bravo.

Buzz will do well at VT.

He's a great underdog coach.

His biggest challenge will be maintaining success without burning down everybody and everything around him.

There would be about 5 total posts during the offseason then.  The thread title made it clear what this thread was about.  Feel free to avoid it if it bothers you.

When he left, his departure was relevant to Marquette basketball. Now that he's gone, his success, failure, or otherwise has no bearing on Marquette's success or failure. I fail to see how it's relevant in anyway to board. Put it in the Superbar if you guys want to argue with Chicos about Buzz.

I guess all I have to do is wait about six years and we'll stop bringing it up every day (the Crean posts have thinned out) but instead we'll just be reading about what Wojo is doing on the recruiting trail at Duke instead.

Again, you clicked on a thread that you clearly didn't want to see.  Your choice.  Don't complain about it.

Ah yes the don't mind the spam because you don't have to click on it argument. Bulletproof.

Well at least you haven't caused this thread to devolve into some petty rivalry about whether or not you are correct in your initial assertion.

Bravo to you, counselor. Bravo.

It says right in the thread title "buzz."  You clearly don't like reading Buzz threads.  Not hard to see and avoid it.

ChitownSpaceForRent

Just looked at their non-conference schedule. Good lord it may be the weakest schedule I have ever seen from a power conference. That being said I'm looking forward to the Buzz and DJ Newbill reunion. Think Newbill drops 30?

jficke13

How dare I point out that these threads add nothing to the board?

He will do ok there. Buzz will have them competitive in a few years. Will he get them to challenge for an ACC banner, not so sure.

Not sure about this.  That conference has true blue bloods in Duke and UNC and Cuse. Then there's already a massive crowd of good teams. I think that he might field teams that's be good in other conferences but will struggle to break through the pack in the ACC

Agreed.  UVA is getting better and Bennett has a head start on Buzz...in VA to boot and isn't Louisville now part of the ACC?
Duke, UNC, Cuse, UVA, Louisville.  I think Buzz will have Va Tech in the next "group" in about 3-4 years.

Dont forget about Pitt too. Va Tech is in a heap of trouble.

Agreed. Best case scenario middle of the pack in the ACC and even that will be hard to achieve. Built schedule 10 bunnies each year and the record will look OK.

Right, I mean, "do well" is subjective.

VTech is traditionally a program that struggles, so getting them to the tournament 2 or 3 times out of 5 years would be doing pretty well.

This.

And it's the only reason Buzz took the job. He gets to leave a place that wouldn't let him do whatever he wanted any more for a place that will be overjoyed with the prospect of a 20-12 campaign that nets them an 11 seed twice in his five seasons at the helm.
