Marquette doesn't make any money on the deal, and some of their personnel have to work it for the NCAA.  But if it really were bad for MU, why would they continue to bid?  Look, it helps the City to have a bunch of visitors downtown, and if all Marquette is doing is helping the city out, that should be supported.

Really I can't believe that people would think this is a bad thing.

My understanding is the NCAA has the TV deal but the local school/arena get a piece of the gate/parking/concessions.

No one does this out of charity.

They might get something.  They aren't getting rich from it in any respect.

But helping the city in which you are located isn't just charity.  It's good business.

So 16 home games and fielding an elite team most years is not enough?

Call Bill Cords and ask.  Seriously, Marquette wouldn't do this if they weren't getting something out of it.

No sh*t.  Most places think this is a cool thing.  Marquette thinks its a cool thing.

We cannot play in Milwaukee, if it is held here and we cannot play in Milwaukee if it is not held here. Beisdes that, if you are not a top four seed you can get shipped anywhere.

This is actually not true. We can play in Milwaukee, we just can't play at the Bradley Center since it is our home court.

As someone previously mentioned Villanova gets around this by only playing 3 games a year at the Wells Fargo Center. This way the arena is not considered their home court and they are eligible to play there.

If we played our home games else where in Milwaukee and we only played in the Bradley Center 3 times a year we could play there in the tournament..

*and if we are not the hosts.  So theoretically, if UWM hosts the games at Miller Park or the MECCA, we could play there.  For Villanova, I believe the A-10 or another conference was the host when it was played there.

Yes, Nova was the host.  They simply scheduled the maximum # of games at the tourney site those seasons.

Yeah that part I'm not sure about. When I looked into it all I found was the 3 game part but couldn't find out anything about being the host school. I would think that would be correct but since most schools play on campus and not in the major cities it doesn't come up that often, since in our case there isn't another place for us to play.

New stadium coming in 2017, if reports are to be believed.  So we can play in the BC in 2018 (assuming this doesn't switch to the new stadium).

Seriously - how often do we get placed in the closest arena to Milwaukee let alone getting a home game because MKE is building a new arena.

No, Villanova has not hosted any of the NCAA games at the Wells Fargo Center, and they've only scheduled 3 games there every year it's an NCAA site.

In 2006, when it happened the first time, the A-10 conference was the host at the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Center.

In 2009, which is the time most of us remember because they went to the Final Four, St. Joe's was the host at the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Center.

In 2013, Temple was the host at the Wells Fargo Center, so it technically could have happened again but Nova got a #9 seed.
