Despite two Sweet 16s and a bevy of NBA first rounders, Crean misses the Top 50.

Lots of Bo Ryan love in the comments...

And Jurkin, Peter (#42 )is transferring!

TC's reaction?

The Legend, Stew Morrill from Utah State, checks in at #48.

(Crean did make the 25 who just missed list.  As did Brian Wardle.)

Half of the Big East's coaches are in the top fifty.  None make the 25 who just missed.

What the heck is Rick Pitino's kid doing in the top 50???

The Crean reaction shot is a sweet setup!

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Seems like ESPN did what all good fans do ... they looked to the last NCAA in March and way over-weighted good performances turned in.

Otherwise, make the case for me based on career results through March 1 that Kevin Ollie is higher ranked than Boeheim  or Archie Miller is #26?  Greg Marshall is #8?

Prior to last season, I would have put Buzz top 20.   After last season, I still think he should be 10-12 spots higher.    Boyle, Fran, McKillop, Miles, Hoiberg, Kruger, Byrd, Crews.....all worse than Buzz.

Still waiting on Pitino, Izzo, K, Calipari, Donovan.  Will be interested to see the order they have those guys.

They got the right top 5, I think.  But Kevin Ollie #9 before he's coached a team where he was responsible for bringing in players who comprise even a tenth of the minutes on the floor is crazy.

He must coach in a league whose TV contract isn't with ESPN.

I'm not sure how they could defend putting Richard Pitino on the list (albeit he barely cracked the top 50).  He's been a head coach for just two seasons, and has not made the NCAA Tournament yet.  At least

Keefe, was in your neck of the woods last week. Spent an afternoon meandering Pike Place market and had the most delicious oysters I've ever tasted at Emmett Watson's oyster bar. Big, plump and buttery, half dozen served on a paper plate for $9.99. I could have had 4 dozen of them.

Man, you should have let me know. I would have bought you a beer at the Pike Place Brewery. Watson's is great but just a few blocks away are some places where you can get 18 oysters for $10!

The great thing about Puget Sound is the water is deep, cold, and clean which is perfect for oysters. Willapa Bay, Samish Bay, and the Hood Canal have ideal tidal flat conditions of cold fresh snow melt meeting sea water that produce the world's greatest variety and best quality oyster. I am partial to kusshis, tottens, and shigokus but my very favorite are the kumamotos.

From your description, I am guessing you had Willapas which are larger with a lot of brine and a buttery texture. A solid stand by that pairs well with any of the Kiwi Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs. With the shigokus and tottens I would serve a sancerre. With kusshis and kumamotos, though, there is only one choice - a crisp Kunshu Nihonshu (sake) that delivers a lot of fruit on the palate. One of the best things about WA is the merge between seafood and wine and oysters are one of the area's most sublime experiences.

I don't get how Calipari can be ahead of Pitino.  Calipari has a chamionship, Pitino has two, Calipari has 2 runner ups, Pitino has one. Calipari has 2 final fours Pitino has 4.  It makes no sense to me.  Maybe you could say that it was a bigger deal getting UMASS, Memphis and Kentucky to the Final Four and beyond than Providence, Louisville and Kentucky but still Pitino has  gotten there more.

Oh man, I would have loved to devour oysters and wine with you. Next time my friend, I will certainly let you know when I am in. I am very ignorant of all of the types of oysters, but I have never met one I didn't like.

Pike Place brewery was actually one of my stops. I got a flight of 8 different beers. Pretty good stuff. Their IPA was very good and the Monk's Uncle was a decent trappist-style Tripel.

I was staying at Suncadia near Roslyn, but the day trip into the city was worth every minute.

Simple, they way over-weighted this year's tourney results.  Calipari made the finals, Pitino did not.

Like I asked above, why is Kevin Ollie #10, two ahead of Boeheim?  If they did this poll on March 1, after Ollie successfully guided Uconn to an 8 seed, would he have even been in the top 50?

What makes these lists stupid is that they're poorly framed, and they need to be in order to make it to discussion boards, get more clicks, etc. If they would say "Top 50 coaches right now", there is substantially less debate, because we know a time period ("recently"), so it's not dumb to have all-time greats (and yes, Boeheim is one of the all time greats (greatest pricks)) lower than you might expect. Are we talking last 5 years? 10 years? The internet 'list' lives because it is pulled out of someone's ass without more than 5 minutes of thought, but whose discussion goes on considerably longer.

We actually thought about getting a place over at Suncadia but opted not to as my wife was more of a downhill v x country skier. Very nice place that is just about an hour from Bellevue-Redmond. There is mystical divide at the pass where the weather changes significantly. If it is gray and rainy in Seattle it is bright and sunny on the front range.

At the end of the day we figured the hour drive was not equal to the capital investment so we passed on purchasing and would simply stay at the Lodge. Not sure if you got a chance to swing a club but they have two very fine courses over there.

Yup played both the Prospector and Rope Rider, beautiful courses. Was very impressed with the resort overall. My family rented a house, the lodge looked nice though, with some very beautiful views. Some great hiking and biking. The winery was nice too.

Went into Roslyn another night and that was like going back in time.

My folks live in Spokane (Veradale) and although they have some beautiful scenery as well there is nothing quite like central Washington.

I didn't know your folks were in Spokane. The front range has a completely different environment from the seaward side of the pass - one literally moves from rain forest to high desert chaparral in a matter of minutes. The stretch between Ellensburg and Spokane is like driving on the moon but once you approach the Sawtooths it starts to green up again.

Suncadia is rather well done and is truly a four season playground. Glad you got to take some swings, too, as the setting for the golf is stunning. We would stay in the Lodge which my wife really did enjoy. Let's just say I never failed to wake up feeling that all was right with the world.

Pitino has seven Final Fours.  He is a revolutionary coach who should be ranked ahead of Calipari pretty much in every way shape and form.  Outside of Coach K, there is no contemporary that is better.
