It's going to take awhile..maybe a couple years...for Wojo to separate Wojo, the former Duke PG and assistant coach from Wojo, Marquette's head coach. It's just how everybody sees him right now. But it the change will happen and it'll happen a lot quicker if he has success. A similar situation was Donovan. Played and coached under Pitino and now he's just Florida's head coach.

This.

MU people should be excited our coach is on a nationally syndicated sports show. Buzz never made an appearance. It's publicity. College fans know Wojo as the Duke coach they love to hate more than K. Now they know Wojo as the Marquette coach. He's going to bring attention more for being Duke Wojo until halfway through next season when MU is 13-2 first week into conference season.

You honestly think Wojo know this?  5 days ago he wasn't even thinking about coaching MU now you want him to reel all this off?  He's be lucky to reel off all his player's names without notes right now.

Ask him these questions at midnight madness.

What would have been an interesting question is timetable on assistants and if Wainwright is part of his plans.  But this too is too narrow for a national audience.

I do.  If he hasn't done an in depth evaluation of the returning guys I'd be surprised.  And you don't think he has an idea of how he wants to play and what type of player he is looking to recruit?  If he doesn't we're in trouble.

Today is Thursday, he got the job Monday.  You think the best use of his time the last three days was holed up in the AL watch game film of this past season?  If not him, who?  He has no assistants!!

Yeah he as a style he wants but that does not matter right now, he will coach to the talent he has.

You're mistaking what Wojo knows and what the audience of a sports radio show cares about.

DP and the Danettes don't care about how Duane Wilson improved on his redshirt or how MU will fill the 5 void now that Gardner/Otule have left or whether Deonte Burton is the mini version of Julius Randle. Marquette basketball was irrelevant this past season. People don't know crap about our program in its current state.

At this point, be happy MU is in the media for something positive.

Would have liked to hear Wojo's evaluation of where the program is now, what needs to be done to move back to the dance, what kind of player he is looking for, what type of game does he plan to play, his view of the new conference.  You know, stuff that would be relevant and interesting to a MU fan.  Little disappointed in Patrick to be honest.

Do like Patrick's idea of the entire fan base doing a floor slap after our first basket each game, tho.

The portion of Patrick's audience likely to care about such matters is infinitesimal in comparison to the portion of the audience who enjoyed what they heard from the interview.  It's a PR tour to introduce the coach. I'll take all the exposure Wojo can get for himself, especially during the honeymoon period of his hire.

Well, he said that he has been holed up in his office non-stop the last few days so, yeah, I think he has watched a ton of film on the current guys so that he has an idea of what he needs to fill out the roster.

And even if he didn't or had no idea of what type of game he wants to play and what type of player he is looking for, Patrick erred in at least not asking him these questions.

well then, for them it was a fine interview.  For me, not so much.  Not faulting Wojo, faulting Patrick.

Wait, so now you're upset at a host for knowing what his audience wants to learn from one of his guests?

Boilerplate.   Not significantly different than the Gottlieb interview.    Pleasant.

Not upset, but disappointed that Patrick did not even ask one question about Wojo's plans for MU.  How hard would it have been for Patrick to ask something like, have you had a chance to evaluate the team and what are the priorities to get MU back to the dance?

Pretty simple.

It is simple. No one cares about MU basketball outside of this fanbase. College basketball fan is more interested in why Wojo did K's halftime interview. More interested in Jabari Parker since he was a Freshman star and Wojo coached him. More interested if Wojo got the memo that K ain't retiring soon so better get a head gig when he can. The national audience is only interested in why it took Wojo 15 years to leave Durham and why he went to Marquette.

The most interesting answer he gave was how Coach K was extolling the virtues of Marquette.    It is good to know that the program is thought of that highly.

The last three days has been getting to know everyone.  Lunch with Cords, dinner with Lovell.  Meeting the BOT pooh-bahs (John Ferrero and Swoobda) and other dignitaries in Milwaukee (say the Bucks and other big dollar donors) 12 one-on-one meetings with all his players, staff at the AL, touring the Bradley center, contacting his recruits.  Don't forget talking to his wife about finding a real estate broker and others in the MU community about neighborhoods and schools.  All of this is way more important than immediately watching game film of the Xavier loss.

Or, if you really believe he marched out of the presser to introduce him straight to the film room at the Al and ignored the world, then fire him now as he will be a colossal failure.

Game film can be watched in July and August when things settle down.

Liked it. Personality is there.

Coach K has tremendous respect for Marquette, but will not schedule MU.
Not on a home and home basis. He probably would take us coming to Cameron to give us an ass kicking. Wojo should comply, maybe he can snatch one there to enhance himself.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.

I think this was a great interview. Gave people insight into the man, Wojo. And of course they are gonna ask about Duke/Coach K. Thought he did a great job of turning most answers around into a pro-Marquette answer. Kudos.

Anytime he's not on the phone doing an interview. Pretty easy to do.

You do know these days people can carry their phone anywhere right?

They are calling them "cellular phones" and some believe that one day they may actually have an impact on our daily lives.
