This is an embarrassing hire and the powers that be look foolish. If they targeted him from the beginning so be it. They clearly looked high and low for someone who was simply willing to take it and they hired him

certainly not my idea of "an impact hire". another 'stepping stoner'.  let's make him rich too, so he can move on.  How will he recruit without "duke" stamped on his forhead?

we had a bluechip coach wanting the job but "knew better" so we shopped around for the most obscure guy we could imagine- talked to poor/mediocre/egotistical head coaches and settled here?  the pedigree Howland offered is nonperil, yet we take the second asst coach (the first asst went to Northwestern) from a one and done loaded with talent?  our search committee is disappointing, to say the least.
