I'm just curious as to what are some scoopers level of coaching experience. Feel free to be specific and/or list level of experience you've had playing basketball.

I have no idea if this has been brought up before but I am intrigued after the onslaught of posts the past few weeks.

I've been a football coach for hs and college over the past 8 years but have no experience coaching basketball. Fwiw.

Sawsi

No coaching experience here, but I have quite the resume as a player.

3rd - 7th Grade - St. Joshaphat's League (St. Alexander)
8th Grade  - Pulled the one year transfer to the perennial power St. Roman in the Parkview league.  Almost carried the B team to the Padre Sierra play in game.
Highschool - Tried making it to the big time but decided to go the D-League Route and play in the WA/WM rec league.  Worst decision I ever made. Stay in school!

Overall I am highly qualified to weigh in on the coaching search.

DienerTime34

Won a Marquette Intramural C-League Championship my junior year at Marquette.

Eye

8th graders, but have coached high school baseball, Legion baseball and college fastpitch softball.
GO WARRIORS!

Sharpie

Tried going pro after scoring 10 pts in the first 3 mins of my 8th grade arch diocesan state quarterfinal game. However, didn't score another pt the rest of the game and my draft stock plummeted.

QPSS70

Anyone else take the Hank Raymonds Theory of Coaching Basketball elective offered by the College of Education in the early 70s?  One of my best classes at MU, which also supremely qualified me for my future middle school girls coaching experience and ability to evaluate our own coaches.

Older board members also know there were only so many Horton Roe classes one could take.

source?

Spring soccer from rotary to junior high. Couple years back I coached my (8 years) younger brother's summer league basketball team. I rode the bench for my high school basketball team for a couple years.

Jam Chowder

I played pick-up ball with Tommy Brice at the rec one time.

Marquette_g

Was the worst player on a state high school championship team.

Most of us have been coaching MU basketball for years.  It's a difficult gig since nobody listens to us and we don't get paid.

... plus, we really don't know jack about coaching, recruiting, and, as an added bonus, we have no pressure :)

Skatastrophy

I'm not allowed to be around youngsters. This has hampered my coaching career.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

Only known player to take a charge in MU intramural basketball. (What was I thinking!?!)

leever

Where is the choice for 5th graders at the YMCA?

ChitownSpaceForRent

No coaching experience here (too young) but my dad has coached high school basketball in Illinois for close to 30 years now and for some real successful teams. Hope to follow in his footsteps.

RyanConroy

A couple of years with the Chicago Bulls, one with the Clippers.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I had a 0 point, 21 rebound game in high school.  That's pretty hard to do.

2 year starter in high school (I was a 6 ppg, 10 rpg guy) and was recruited to play (non-scholarship) Division 3 ball for a couple of northeastern schools (Clark, WPI) that were looking for guys who could handle the classwork and lace up sneakers without hurting themselves, but didn't think it was worth doing for free.  (Looking back, dumb decision).

After graduating MU, I coached a Catholic grammar school team for a couple of years with a good record, but could not swing the time it took for long due to work commitments.  Ended up coaching high school CYO basketball and volleyball for the same school for a few years, and later rec boys teams (equivalent of Little League for basketball in my town) for 15 years.  Hadn't coached for a few years, but recently started coaching girls for the first time (my niece's rec league needed coaches) .

I got a referee license 30 years ago and was doing grammar school games, but again didn't have the time to pursue it due to work commitments (though I still have my Marquette Intramural Basketball referee of the year mug for 1983.)

Pretty successful baseball coach in PONY and Babe Ruth for 15-20 years (coached ages 5-18 over the years), though I recently stopped doing that, too.  Also umpired Senior Little League while in college.  I was usually the guy that got roped into being the player-coach for the mens softball teams I played on, too.  Mostly I got into coaching to coach my son and nephews and didn't have the passion to continue after they got older.

Love coaching kids.  Couldn't handle Marquette, but if you've got an grammar school team, I'm your man.

Were you the guy screaming your brains out at the 2nd graders?

wadesworld

Currently in my 7th year of coaching high school age club volleyball.  2010 National Champions.  Top 5 finishes in 2011 and 2012.

Biggest claim to fame on the basketball court was taking an H-O-R-S to H-O-R lead against Scott Christopherson in HORSE.  He then gave me the last 2 letters to win.

AlumKCof93

Coached my oldest son's team between 3rd and 5th grade at the local park district.  Won at 90% of games.

Coached my youngest son's teams between 3rd and 5th grades.  He not as talented.  Won 20% of our games.

The difference may not have had to do as much as talent disparity between my kids.  For my youngest sons teams, I used Buzz's approach to player substitution patterns.  Led to much player confusion and angry parents.

No.... that was me.

GooooMarquette

I spent a week at the Al McGuire Basketball Camp at Delafield St. John's back in the 70s.  Met Al, Rick, Dick Versace.

Also once hit a halfcourt shot at the end of the first quarter of a YMCA league game in about third grade.  Only 2 points back then.

That probably makes me about as qualified to coach MU as about half of the people named in our search.....
