This isn't necessarily great news if it's true. Everyone knows Shaka's loyalties lie with the Badgers. When Bo steps down in 5-8 years Smart was poised to take it over. I just hope we aren't getting another Buzz Williams on our hands where the MU job is used as a stepping stone.

Not worried about that in the slightest

Most people say he hates Madison. Could you imagine the culture shock from the mouth-breathers going from Grandpa Bo's style to Shaka's?

lmao
No way mu ever let any coach go there
Pretty sure that would be in the contract along with other BE schools

This is so huge.  Huger than huge.  Makes the 12 hours of having to look at Buzz in that stupid VT pin so much sweeter.

If true, how in God's name did Marquette manage to go from Buzz Williams to Shaka Smart in 4 days?

Well, the Pope is a Jesuit. He knows people.

From the facts of Buzz's departure it doesn't appear that Buzz used Marquette as a stepping stone, more the other way around. If you mean Buzz won a lot of games for Marquette with the intention of skipping off to a better job, doesn't seem to have happened.  But if Marquette signs one of the most sought after coaches in the game, I'd say Marquette used Buzz to put a shine on the program so they could get a better coach.

Even if this were true -- and it isn't -- you can't hire a coach with the fear that he might leave in 5 or 8 or 10 years. You hire the best guy and you challenge him to make Marquette a "destination" program.

Shaka turned down some huge names the last couple of years. If this is indeed true and he is coming to Ring Out Ahoya, it says a lot about our program.

I am not even one-half of 1 percent worried that the next guy will use Marquette to get a different job. One, I can't control it so why worry about it; and two, it just doesn't matter in the grand scheme of life.

New guessing game.

Guess the amount!

I'm going with $3,458,201 per year.  458 is career assists at Oregon High School.  201 is season assist best.

Goose

Any coach can leave at any time. Trust me if indeed Shaka is inked to contract it puts MU in elite program discussion. This is slam dunk right decision if it happens.

VCU people seem almost resigned to this. Saying it's a six-year deal.

http://www.vcuramnation.com/forums/threads/shaka-to-marquette-apparently-sources-are-saying-so.13380/

Have to say VCU fans seem to be a very classy bunch....reading all of their replies to that thread....not one even took a potshot at Marquette...or commented...why Marquette.  Evident they don't look at MU program as a mid major...
