Is Shaka Smart a legitimate candidate? I'm deeply in love with our program, but even I know we don't have the pull of a Kentucky or Kansas to lure a great coach away from a solid program.

GooooMarquette

I'd say Chew, if only because he gives us the best chance of keeping our promising young and incoming players around.

What's not to like? Top 5 budget in the country, nba arena, good history, good conference, and a plane haha.... Not to mention a hefty pay raise

I am confused why the first person people mention is the same coach people use as an example for how a coach should come out and say he doesn't want to leave his current school.

We'll... except if it is leave to come to our school

Blackhat

Wardle??  Oh man.   Guy hasn't done enough to get this job.   Taking the easy way out.

Wardle needs to prove he can build UWGB up more.

Coleman

Barring a home run like Shaka, Howland.  He wants to be here, and that sounds great to me.  Need a full body and since he's been around he won't have his head up his butt and one foot out the door.

I don't see us getting Shaka.  Howland or Chew would be good.  Not too sure about Wardle.  I don't think we would get Amaker either.

I say we go after anybody who hasn't promised he'll stay at his current school "as long as they'll have me."

I totally agree. But he's had offers from big-time programs before.

Chew is a no. Need coach with experience. Don't see Smart leaving. Howland would be great, keep Chew as assistant.

Go for Harvard coach or Wichita state

Why would you want Amaker?  He failed at Setan Hall and Michigan

Something tells me he'd consider MU seriously....maybe it's just the fact I bleed blue and gold but whatever I still think they'd be doing a disservice to the program to not look into it

Rockmic87

This is a very important Coaching transition for the MU basketball program.  MU could very easily slump into a state of mediocracy (aka the 90's), if it does not make a splash with it's coaching hire. Now would not be the time to be taking a risk with an up and coming, unproven coach (i.e. Wardle)!  It is crucial that MU hires a coach with a National Reputation (i.e. Howland).  It is really too bad that Bruce Pearl is off the market.

Wardle makes sense. MU ties and he just felt the wrath of being a low mid-major coach this season.

He seems a little crean like if you ask me. (not in a good way)
Disagree.  He actually played the game.  Much better game coach.

🏀

No Wardle, has bad ties and claps too much like Crean.

No Bo Ryan coaches either.

Well that went downhill quickly...

Marshall or Shaka in a NY minute. Big fookin' no to Wardle and Chew.

Say what you want, but Pearl can sell anyone a use car.  Guy is a marketing genius.  I'd also endorse Manning and Shaka too!

NersEllenson

If Wardle gets this job...it's a joke...at this stage in game MU should get a much more accomplished coach than Wardle.

Saul Phillips at NDSU is a Wisconsin guy, very likable, gotten great results at NDSU.  He better get an interview.  Howland - yes.  Shaka - absolutely.  Amaker - yes....

MU needs to move quickly and get things stabilized with existing players, and incoming recruits.  Have to retain core talent - Burton, Mayo, Dawson, JJJ, Fischer, Duane - and Ahmed Hill (likely will be gone with Buzz...what comes of Cohen/Pierce?)

In some ways, Buzz leaving may be a blessing and actually help to retain JJJ, Dawson, Burton..

Danny Manning's name should be thrown out there.

I love this idea. Great pedigree as a player and as an assistant coach
