women's exhibition game yesterday
« on: November 04, 2007, 11:00:34 AM »
Some very bright spots, but also some things they need to work on.  They were up by only 7 at half but turned it on in the second half to win 91-60. Some very poor shooting by the majority of the team with the bright spot being Erin Monfre. She hasn't really lived up to her expectations thus far at MU but went 5-8 and was 3-6 from behind the arc in 18 minutes off the bench.  I saw a lot of similarities between the men's and women's teams watching that game yesterday.  They will both run the floor, should score a lot and are very aggressive on both ends.  I believe Concordia was in the double bonus both halves.  Some fouls were pretty questionable for my liking but they were consistent so I can't really complain.  Looking forward for both of these seasons to get underway.

Also a sidenote. The women's team is playing UW at the BC this year.  For every person in attendance above 4,000 (the capacity of the Al) Coach Mitchell is donating a dollar to the B&G Club.  Good cause and will be interesting to see the turnout for the chance to see a women's game in the BC.

This years women's squad is young with 6 freshman coming in this year.  The team lost Quaye, Kamm, McCullough, and Landry all of which were key players.  I was very impressed by Paige Fiedorowicz who scored 10 points before fouling out.  I realize it was her first game but if she can keep the fouls down she will be an excellent replacement for Quaye if not better!

Also props to muwarrior87 for allowing the little kids to win in the halftime contest.  At least I hope you missed those shots on purpose. . . .  :P
