Lyon's done a good job considering Starck's abrupt absence, but Penn St. continues their slide.

Although, I was yesterday years old when I found out Patrick Ewing's daughter is on the team.
She looks a lot like him!

Quote from: Billy Hoyle on September 18, 2025, 07:52:08 AMWisconsin is still a very good team that will make a deep tourney run once again, but man, our ladies weren't even competitive last night.

I really think last year's Sweet 16 is the peak we can expect from MU volleyball and there is nothing wrong with that. Creighton was so close to making the Final Four but lost in five to the eventual national champs and that's about as goo as a Big East school is going to get to that level. The gap between the top conferences and the Big East is just too big.

Yeah if our team wasn't hanging with WI during that last class's tenure we weren't going to this year after dropping games to WKU and San Diego.

Should easily handle Dalmore, but Laphroaig will give us trouble due to the peatiness.

Went to Bullis with Stevens.  Her mother (Cheryl Weaver, who I don't think is married to Patrick) was her coach.  Cheryl won a national championship at Long Beach and was on the USA national team as a player.

Hey - how bout that? Nice 3-0 upset over #15 Florida!

I did not have sweep of Florida on my bingo card after the Wisconsin result.

That was fun to watch here in Florida at a local pub
Nice comebacks in 1st and 2nd sets.

Nice!

MU has no chance at an NCAA Tournament appearance. And don't deserve it. I have no idea how they beat Florida, even if Florida is down this year. Maybe Theis wanted to stay at MU but the money was too good, and threw the match.

I'll give Mendoza the benefit of the doubt given the timing of his hire and being late to hit the transfer portal. But I have my doubts. He'll continue to get the second best support from an athletic department in the Big East, so he should win at Marquette. But we'll see.

Lost to Georgetown? Wow. That was unexpected.

MU is tied for third with Nova. Where did Xavier come from? 13-1, 24-2 on the season? MU gets another shot at them this weekend.

Nice weekend for VB, 2-0 with a win over second place Xavier. Now on to the tourney at the Al which unfortunately means an opening match up with Creighton

Is this surprising? I felt like they didn't have a shot

Edit: looks like it was expected and I'm just out of the loop

No real reason they're in, to be honest.

My guess is that a strong non-conference schedule helped them finish #33 in the computer rankings. A win at Hawaii (not as good as past seasons this year, though), the win against Florida, a close loss to San Diego, the wins over Utah State and yes, Western Kentucky (#27), and the two matches against Bucky and Goldy Gopher. That made up for that loss against Ball State (who went 17-1 in conference play, 21-10 overall).

Overall, they had 13 matches against teams ranked in the top 50.

Happy for Bray and Ring, not sure the team deserved it but good to see the two younger pieces of such an incredible stretch of MUVB get to lead their team to the tournament

They definitely challenge themselves in the non conference, knowing there won't be many opportunities in the conference.  Just don't think their results warranted a bid.  10 losses for Marquette would usually not be good enough to make the Tournament even when they do get one or two top 25 wins in the non conference like they have in previous years.  Their best wins being against Florida at home, at Xavier, and at Hawaii, with losses to Ball State, Georgetown, and Villanova is pretty crazy.  I'll take it, just don't think there was any reason to put them in the Tournament.

Nova was apparently one of the last four out.

Xavier's success this year helped too, giving them two more top 25 games, which in the past the Big East schedule wouldn't provide.
