I thought booing Jake after a missed 3 was noticeable watching on TV, FWIW.

+1  very noticable on tv

I agree, the praise/criticism should only be pinned on Buzz......I think the booing was directed at Buzz for playing Jake at that point.  From what I have heard from the students section this year, they are definitely in favor of a youth movement, to put it nicely.....
If the student section is fr the youth movement, Buzz should start rapping, or whatever the youth movement follows now.

I thought I heard the same thing. I assumed it was directed out of frustration at Buzz' substitution pattern (leaving Jake on the floor for so many minutes in the 2nd half), but it was just a guess. Don't know why you'd bow a guy for missing a shot - it wasn't forced.

This isn't Philly.  You don't boo your guys, especially when they are kids trying their best.

Hopefully this doesn't affect Jake and make him more hesitant to shoot than he already is.

Not that I disagree about booing the hometown team, but I seriously doubt that Jake is so mentally weak that this would get to him.

Daniel

Those who would boo our own team or a player on our team should stay home.  I only hope Buzz does not judge the fan base on a handful on discontents who think they know better.  Buzz - for the rest of us, We ARE Marquette!

If Buzz was disappointed it should have been in the number of empty seats. Holy Cow! Watching on TV, over 50% of the sideline seats were empty for most of the first half.

I didn't really focus on the unfilled seats during the 2nd half so I don't know if during the first half they were no-shows or latecomers.

6pm game is pretty early, especially if people need to get out of work park and would like to have dinner.  Historically these early games have had late arriving crowds.  Bottom line unless it was abig time game.  People especially the older people in those seats you mention are perfectly happy wih arriving a little late.  dont see that changing

I also heard the boos on TV when Jake shot... no need to ever boo student athletes.  They aren't pros and they aren't getting paid (excluding Kentucky and North Carolina).

In my experience, it's usually the recent college grads who have no qualm about booing players.  I know I was more critical of college players a decade ago.

Absolutely heard no boos directed at our team.  Several directed at the refs, yes.  Wondering if there was some action off the ball that didn't get a call and fans were booing the refs for that, but don't know for sure.

As a paying fan, you have the right to boo if you feel like it. College athletics is a billion dollar business and people invest lots of time and money for these programs. If they feel like they don't like what they're seeing and want to boo, more power to them. This isn't grade school basketball where we need to treat everyone with kid gloves. The Packers were booed numerous times at Lambeau this year and the fans there are considered some of the best in the NFL.

Of course, no one is arguing they don't have a right to boo.

Just because you have the right to boo doesn't mean you shouldn't find a way to be classy enough not to.  Straddled the Majerus-Dukiet years.   4 years in the student section.   Never booed.  Shook my head in disbelief and drank another beer, but never booed.

I heard booing after Jake's missed 3. Also I thought I heard booing when he got subbed in, in the first half, from the student section.  Not to expect any different, I got into many arguments about the merits of booing Chris Grimm when I was in the student section.  The people that boo Jake are probably the same ones yelling him to shoot, when he touches the ball anywhere on offense.

Mods, Delete me please. 8/26/2020

I dont think anyone is booing --- what you are hearing are GROANS, the exact same reaction fans have when our team can't make free throws.  Groaning in disappointment vs outright booing.  There is a difference.

For some reason your screen name always made me assume you were younger.  Same with Warriorchick.  Oh well.

I was there during the Mike Deane era and never booed, not so much because it's my policy as I didn't really care and generally exepected us to lose anway.  I still wouldn't, but it's different now.

Nah. Guys in front if and behind me were booing with malice whenever Derrick would sub in and definitely on Jake's final three point shot. It was embarrassing, and I'm glad Buzz called those fans out.

(Yes, malice. I thought the guy in front of me was going to pass out he was so pissed.)

Booing is going to happen and especially be magnified because the "cheer-ers" were watching Shawn Johnson speak on campus.

Did they announce the attendance?

The lack of loud rah-rah fans might have drowned out those boo-birds.

Had to google Shawn Johnson.   Still don't get it.   Why see her rather than go to a basketball game?

I think Buzz is wrong.  I sit in close proximity to the team.  There were certainly boos, and I was one of them, aimed at the refs.  There was a stretch in the second half where they were flatly ignoring fouls on our guys as well as the time Gardner got pulled to the floor.

I heard no boos aimed at the players or Buzz.  People were indeed grumbling, however when we play the tandem of Jake and Derrick.  They both have their strengths but it makes it really difficult to score.  Since they don't have to guard Derrick's open looks, Jake has no chance.  He doesn't have the ability to create a shot.

The big disappointment was the pathetic student turnout.

This.

But kids will be kids...the alumni must take over for them...

Similarly, with MU is struggling, who do you blame for people not wanting to cough up for game tickets and being there to cheer for MU?

It was pretty weak.  My son called me about an hour before the game. 'None of my buddies are going.  Mind if I sit with you.'

Glad he came.  Was good to spend some time.  We had extra seats in our area so all was good.

Better question is why have her speak on campus when they can have her attend the game, be seen on TV, and maybe do a routine at halftime so everybody wins :D
