I've been told it's inappropriate to wager on this website.  I can't wait to see your predictions 20-10????

Second toughest game after buckeyes will be Conf opener on road vs Creighton. I'm guessing a 5 or 6 loss regular season.

I'm not seeing 28-2 without an experienced point guard and some question marks with out new guys.  I'd say 5-6 losses as LML predicted is more realistic.

I said the same about our first game against ever in the Big East, except I said within 30.  We won that game by almost 20.  Even though I predicted a loss in that one, it was more because I don't see us losing 5 or less games this year and they were an obvious choice for a loss.  I think Derrick Wilson shows us all how underrated he is while exposing Aaron Craft as the pretty boy overrated player he is, and we win a tough one.

You heard it here first.  Derrick Wilson will outplay Aaron Craft.

Hell of a goal, Cotton.

I think 5 or 6 losses seems reasonable. I am also very confident about this year, however, and have a hard time placing those 6 losses. I think we have a fun 5 months ahead of us.

First thought...there are 13 non-con games, guys, not 12 ;) ... anyway, my predictions

Non-Conference

Southern - W
Grambling - W
Ohio State - W
New Hampshire - W
@ Arizona St - L
@ Cal State Fullerton - W
Miami - W
Creighton/ASU/SDSU - W
@ Wisconsin - W
IUPUI - W
Ball State - W
New Mexico - W
Samford - W

Out-of-Conference Record: 12-1

Big East

@ Creighton - L
DePaul - W
@ Xavier - W
Seton Hall - W
@ Butler - W
@ Georgetown - L
Villanova - W
Providence - W
@ St. Johns - W
Butler - W
@ Seton Hall - W
Xavier - W
Creighton - W
@ DePaul - W
Georgetown - W
@ Villanova - W
@ Providence - L
St. John's - W

Total Record: 27-4 (15-3)
Final Record: 34-5

Thoughts: There's always a non-con game that has us shaking our heads. Whether it's Dayton, NC State at home, Vanderbilt (both times), LSU, or Green Bay, we have 1-2 of those games a year. This year I think it's Arizona State. Jahii Carson is very good and after a 4-0 start that includes beating Ohio State at home, I think we'll be due for a letdown. My hope is that we get revenge in the Wooden, though beating Creighton would be just as satisfying.

I also predict one of the highlights of the year will be December 14. Our win over IUPUI coupled with South Dakota State's home loss to Belmont will give Marquette sole possession of the longest home winning streak in the country.

In conference play, I think our 15-3 record will be enough to win the league outright. A pair of early losses will have people unjustifiably worried before a 10-game winning streak rights the ship. We will clinch the title on March 4th despite losing that night at Providence against a team desperate for a big win to push them into the field of 68. Creighton's fifth league loss will ensure Marquette gets the title.

In the postseason, Marquette sweeps their three games in NYC en route to their first Big East Tournament title and goes into the NCAAs ranked in the top-10 while earning the #2 seed in the West, where we join old friends Louisville. MU easily sweep aside their first two opponents before a stern test from VCU in the Sweet 16. Marquette ekes out a win and advances to play Louisville. Derrick Wilson's tendency to not turn the ball over allows Marquette to accomplish what was such a difficult feat with Junior at the helm, beating Pitino's Cardinals. MU joins Duke, Kansas, and Michigan State in the Final Four, losing a close game to the Blue Devils before Coach K goes on to cut down the nets for the fifth time of his career, with Jabari Parker edging out Ender Wiggins for Final Four POY honors.

Let's not forget that Derrick Wilson was a freshman who had never seen meaningful minutes against even a half way decent opponent when he unexpectedly was forced into the starting spot at point guard going into one of the toughest places to play in the country and matching up with Wisconsin's All American point guard. We won that game with Derrick playing a huge role on the defensive end. It looked like Derrick was the senior while Taylor looked like the freshman. You guys can doubt Derrick all you want, but mental (and the obvious physical) toughness will take a Buzz player a long way (see Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder). Derrick has toughness.

Derrick is such an interesting case study as a player. His defenders will point to his excellent defensive performance in place of the suspended Cadougan in that game despite Wilson accounting for a combined total of zero points and assists. His detractors will point to his 29.6% on FGs and 11.1% on 3s in his career.

I'll say this. Wilson is certainly tested. He has played in quite a few big games, but has never really been the guy. He's never had the reins of the offense (even when he started for JC). As a HS player, Derrick was able to score against some of the top prep competition in the country. While I don't expect him to be an offensive star, I think he'll show he has enough game to play at this level, and definitely enough moxie to be a leader at the point. Knowing that he has to be the man with DuWil out, I expect him to be better than many expect.

That said, I'm sure he'll be the most maligned player on Marquette's roster no matter what he does. After all, he's our PG, and when are we ever happy with our PG?

We have the potential to go undefeated in big east play. But, It wont happen. Beating a team twice is tough. Id say about 3 losses in BE play, but 1 loss in o.o.c

I want to give us the win against Ohio State, but I just can't do it. It is a winnable game but point guard is our weakness while it is their greatest strength. They have a very balanced team that should finish in the top 10 this year. Our best hope to beat them is by getting Amir Williams in foul trouble. He is their only true big. He goes down and suddenly you have 6"8 players playing the 5. Oxtule would eat them alive.

Anybody else concerned about the word how close the refs will be calling the games? Combine that with Derrick's "Strong like bull" defense and I see some tick-tack fouls in his future. This may be one of the most important lessons in the scrimmages.

Yes. Numerous comments, including Mike Broeker and Jeff Goodman, that games are going to be loooooooooooong this year because of all the fouls called.
