I like Iowa State, and I've always liked Hoiberg but this smells funny. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he was talking to McKay before he decommitted. No proof...it just don't smell right.

I don't think this smells funny in the slightest.  McKay is not the type of player you risk your reputation or your program over.  He is only going to give you a yr and a half and he wasn't going to start for MU.  Why risk it?  I would not be surprised to find out that McKay reached out to see if there was still interest and that got the ball rolling again.

I think it is better for all parties involved that McKay found another place to play.  I watched the dunk contest commentary online and I was not a fan of his.  He gave STJr looks of disgust, contempt, and grabbed the mike away like it was his toy that he did not want to share.  I was not surprised to learn after that that he decided to transfer because he didn't want to play out of position.  I know I am judging this off of one video but it was the first impression so it sticks.

Does iowa st. do well come tourney time? Do they even get invited? Well at least we know McKay wont get in to trouble, heck what is there to do there in the middle of corn country? Maybe flip cows for fun?

Lamest myth ever.

This IS the lamest myth ever.

Everybody knows they don't flip cows there. They tip 'em!

Cows aren't easy to tip over, and a failed attempt wakes the cow and freaks it out, so it starts mooing, and then all the other cows wake up and start mooing and coming over to see whats wrong, and suddenly you're surrounded by big freaked out cows making lots of noise and the lights come on in the house and... well I advise against the practice.

They don't have many cows in Iowa....they have pigs.

And Hoiberg has done well at ISU...getting them to the round of 32 the last two years and played real competitively v. OSU last year.  Ames is a real tough place to recruit to and he has done it by getting a number of transfers.  Korie Lucious finished his career out there.

Eye

Iowa State will make the tourney again this year, but probably be in that neighborhood again where they have to play a real tough opponent in the 2nd round, unofficially on the round.
GO WARRIORS!

Newsdreams

Their team has been doing very good under Hoiberg. They should be in the tournament again this year. They should had won the game against OSU in the tournament last year. Also, they kicked the domers butt in the tournament last year(76-58)  ;D

I don't think it smells funny at all -- it makes perfect sense to me.

Iowa State has had a nice pipeline of Milwaukee/WI kids because of T. J. Otzelberger, who played at Thomas More and UW-Whitewater. The guy is known as one of the hardest working recruiters out there and he knows Milwaukee/Wisconsin well. I have no doubt he knew of McKay and had a relationship because he knows all of the WI kids. Otzelberger left ISU last summer for U of Washington to assist Lorenzo Romar. He's had a few offers for low D1 head coaching slots, but they weren't the right fit. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a head coach in the next few years at some mid-major.  My gut is Otzelberger had ties with McKay for the last few years, even through high school, and this was an easy fit because he knew ISU well. Otzelberger and Hoiberg are still friends (Hoiberg went to his wedding even after he left for UW) and Hoiberg knows Otzelberger eventually wants to be a head coach, so there was no animosity with him leaving. It wouldn't surprise me if Otzelberger reached out to McKay and told him ISU was still a great fit. A friend helping a friend. The kids love Otzelberger.

raul

OK FreeportWarrior, then why would he say Iowa St. was a better option for McKay than staying at MU?

raul

Yeah I see the comment on flipping cows was a little off. TIP the cows is what they do in Iowa. Maybe the pigs if they are really wasted. ;D

Good riddance. After he retweeted this, I no longer wish McKay well. I hope he enjoys his two crappy years in Bumblecrap, Iowa before never getting a sniff at the NBA. Punk doesn't know what it means to work and expects life to be handed to him on a silver platter.

@taytayloree: @ShowTime_McKay congrats Meel!! F*** Marquette cause we all know you about to ball out as a cyclone anyway!! #teamhills

I'm sure he will lose sleep over the fact that you no longer wish him well because of something said by someone who follows him on twitter.  /yawn

Then why didn't McKay go to Washington?  Afterall, that is where Otzelberger is coaching now.

Might I suggest you just quit following him?

It seems like you are looking for a reason to raise your blood-pressure.
