It's not about Jersey sales.  That is a tiny fraction of the worth.

Success in athletics leads to more donations and more applications.  Why do you think their is such an arms race for good players?  Otherwise everyone would be Depaul and not care.

For instance, what was the monetary value of D Wade for MU.  Without him, at the time he came along, one could argue no Big East and no AL.  We would have been the Midwest version of UAB and/or Memphis (less Calipari).  D Wade meant millions for MU.  Pay = 1 college scholarship.

The TV ratings for Alabama/A&M was the highest in 23 years (below).  Why?  One reason and one reason only, Johnny Manziel.  The attention and exposure for both Alabama and A&M are incalculable.

So explain this ... Robinson and Manziel play in front of 100,000 every Saturday.  College football TV ratings are greater than MLB TV ratings (but less than the NFL)

By what logic does a baseball team have a $100 million payroll and a QB in the NFL make $75 million but playing in front of 100,000 and a larger TV audience than MLB only has the value of Jersey sales?

You're arguing your position so hard you're not making any more sense.  Again we are talking about a few players per University.  But those players are the difference between being MU or Depaul. You think a Diamond Stone is worth $59,000 to some university?  The jet fuel some are spending to recruit him is more than that.  That alone argues your math is totally wrong.

The numbers between the NCAA compensation and the NFL are not as far apart as you think.  The average college football team provides around $8M in compensation for their athletes ($100k per athlete).  The NFL $120 million.  Average revenue for a college football team is likely around $50M, some being much higher, many being much lower (If we strip donations out of this it is much much lower).  Average revenue for a NFL team around $300M.  So just based on the numbers, equal rate of compensation would be around $20M for the college athletes.  Off by a factor of 2...reasonable.

Especially given that the expenses for both the NCAA and NFL to play football should be comparable, so the NCAA profit will be much lower and compensation should also be much lower.

F* them.

Every story about players getting paid by boosters puts a smile on my face. Good for Foster.

The Foster one in particular....it brings a smile to my face when Tennessee gets hammered.  Foster claims he couldn't pay the rent.  Uhm, hello, the rent is PAID FOR by UT unless you go above and beyond and get something outrageous, which he did.  Sorry, no tears for you Foster....your rent was there and you decided it wasn't good enough so you got a better place.  Going over to the UT board and watching 85% of their fans beyond pissed at him is pretty funny.

Good for you Foster...hope it lands your school on probation.

If the NCAA enforced its laws, most BCS schools would be on probation... or worse.

Probably.  If the gov't enforced our laws, most of us would be in trouble as well.  Only so many police...only so many NCAA investigators.  Of course there are degrees to everything.  We've all gone speeding, broken the law.  Most if not all schools have committed some minor violations.  Not everyone is paying for players.
