Who the hell picked "Strange Fruit" as a song?

I can tell Derrick Wilson has had some type of boxing training. He had great form and picked his punches while staying balanced.  The other guys seemed too hoppy and Jameel was just punching like someone who's never been in a fight before.  Granted none of that has to do with basketball but that's a boxer's take on it.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

If that doesn't fire you up for this year check your pulse

AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand its not even boot camp yet.

AZWarrior

Does the team make the vertical leap player data available?  Or any other lift data, such as bench press by player?  I'd love to see the year over year improvement resulting from this strength training.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

Cool video.

What the eff was that god awful music?  Sounded like a bunch of Red rodents when you throw them in a sack and set it on fire.  Not that I would know.  Just sayin'.

Even with the hip-hop beat to it, it was just uneasy hearing those lyrics. Poor taste.

Wonder if this is also a bit of a preview of the pregame video this year.

It's a remix of "Blood on the Leaves", a Kanye West track from Yeezus, which samples Nina's "Strange Fruit".  Ya'll old.

+1 If you are recruiting traditionals this may not be the video for you, but if you are recruiting kick A switchables, well then grab a glass and sit down and enjoy. Great recruiting fodder.  Thank you Todd Smith. Great job.

Glad they're doing a lot of boxing work. Need to be ready for Xavier. Zip 'em.

Either way, it's still a song about black people being lynched in the south.

CAGASS24

I thought the music was pretty rad for a workout video

Eh, fair enough.  The TNGHT sample on it is sick though and fits a workout video nicely.  They probably should have just stuck that beat under there instead of the Kanye track.

I don't have a problem with Kanye incorporating the song into his music, but having a song that talks about the lynching of black men playing while a group of primarily black men are working out is really, really tacky.

No.  The song in and of itself doesn't bother me.  As I said in another forum:

"As someone who handles PR for a university, I would be very wary of using music like this simply because it causes this type of debate. This is a wonderfully shot video...really high level stuff. There are dozens of music choices that could have been made that would have been equally as powerful, but they chose one that talks about the lynching of black men. I just think it detracts from the video itself and can put MU in a bad light."

It was a joke.  Settle Sultan.

In the past these have been published... I remember reading them on GoMarquette's website.

Blue Horseshoe

Personally, I enjoyed the video. Music didn't bother me at all.

Marquette alum Greg Kot reviewed Yeezus for the Trib and had this to say about Blood on the Leaves, "Blood on the Leaves" wastes a sample of Nina Simone's biting version of  "Strange Fruit" on a tawdry tale of a man who juggles a wife and mistress, and loses them both. On an album rife with images of oppression, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for an update of the harrowing meditation on racism, but West takes a pass."

We R Final Four

I recall the coach of the Murray St head coach who upon seeing MU take the floor in tourney said something to the effect 'I thought that we were playing Marquette's basketball team, not their football team.' Man, Todd Smith can bring it....and this is just the start.
