Eric Bledsoe and Blake Griffin from Clippers to Lakers for Dwight Howard

Boston also rumored to cut ties with Paul Pierce...who would likely end up with the Clippers if he is traded to another team and then dumped.

Stern loves his big markets and LA would have two solid teams. Boston is old and would be re=loading for the future. Wow.

I also wouldn't want the Dwight Howard of the past two years on my team, but the Clips are apparently willing to gamble on the chance that Howard is able to grow out of the weird personal drama. If he does, they will be much better off than they are with Griffin.

Actually, i followed team usa fairly closely. Rumblings out of the Coach K camp and Boeheim camp suggest he wasnt the greatest teammate... I wouldnt be surprised if Howard declines the next invite... It will be a tough decision for the staff since i think they prefer to play faster.

As a side note, K is back as head coach. he said he wouldnt coach unless he was still committed to Duke at the time of the Olympics.

Boeheim accepted assistant coaching job and he said the same thing.

Looks like both programs have their HC tied up for a few more years...

To be accurate, the Celtics would release him from his contract and allow him to sign with the Clippers as part of the deal.  Coaches can't be traded.

And I would want neither Howard nor Griffin for the hype and/or cap space they will likely take up.  But if given the choice I would take Howard over Griffin.

I think Grif still has some upside if he can improve his footwork and craftiness (his primary weapon is still just being a better athlete).

Howard is still in his prime, but won't be improving. Plus, he is his own worst enemy, so I'd be nervous about that.

There both athletes however Howard is a much better defensive player.  Griffin does not seem to fair well in set offenses if it isnt a lob.  Howard has a much higher potential but he has a much higher probability of being injured.  Like the Grantland article said you can't pass on Howard if he wants to play for your team.

Howard is a spoiled child. Mentally, he's very weak. Physically, his body is breaking down.

Sorry, just clarifying.  It has happened a bunch in baseball over the years.  I believe a handful of times in the NFL, but would need to confirm. NBA coaches have also been traded.

They both suck.

Neither of them "suck." Both have specific talents that have been valuable and can continue to be valuable.

Howard sucks so much that he absolutely carried an otherwise mediocre Orlando team to the 2009 NBA Finals. I mean, unless you think Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis and Courtney Lee were superstars. (Jameer Nelson was hurt and didn't even play the first three rounds.)

In recent seasons, however, Howard has become a spoiled coach-killer and a bad teammate. He also has become injury-prone after being an ironman earlier in his career. Still, he's not even 28 years old and it sure would be tempting to want him as a defensive force, rebounder and occasional 20-point man -- if the right coach can convince him that's what he is. (Not sure that coach is out there.)

Griffin is a different type of beast. He already has lots of skills and appears to have a higher ceiling. He has shown a willingness to work, improving his outside shooting and free-throw shooting, he is only 24 and he has a chance to be a Mailman-type forward as he matures into more than just a dunking machine. Note that I said "has a chance" and "Mailman-type." Not predicting he'll be the next Mailman. He also seems to be a much better team player.

At this point in their careers, I think I'd take Griffin over Howard in a trade, especially if I could get back some extra pieces that would make Griffin a better role player.
