Does anyone know if Van was invited to the NBA Combine?

Also one of 44 players invited to the big NBA workout in Brooklyn at the end of the month, presuming Chad Ford was rattling off all of the players invited.

Who's coming out and didn't get invited?

strotty

Looks like that's the case. I must have misheard/read when I saw he was getting ready for Brooklyn. Not good news.

Should have listened to those who know.

This has a to be real downer for the young fella.  Keep working.....

All 60 players drafted last year were at the Combine, were International or voluntarily declined a Combine invite. #mubb

Josh Harrellson (45th overall), Lavoy Allen (50th), Jon Diebler (51st) and Vernon Macklin (52nd) didn't get Combine invites in '11.

I thought the recent play of Jimmy Butler, Jae Crowder and Wes Matthews may at least get him a look. I watch some NBA and I just don't see how Blue fits in. He'd have to be a PG, not a big need for 2Gs that can't shoot.

You know what's assinine?  Kids who have no chance at being drafted in the first round, if at all, holding their scholarship hostage while the spring signing period comes and goes.

The NCAA got it right this time.  If Vander had listened to the right people, he would have known a month ago that his chances of getting a combine invite were minimal.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

If the kid has no shot at getting drafted wont he figure it out and come back or the coach can over recruit him and not renew his scholly. Please don't give me the poor coaches argument.

Poor (figurative) coaches?  How about the poor (literal) HS kid who has to wait around for two months because his first choice "might or might not" have a scholarship available?  Does he take the inferior scholarship at the school across the country?  Does he hold out until the other kid "drops out of the draft" only to find that his second and third choice didn't wait on him?

Funny how the NCAA doesn't seem to care about the damage done to HS kids by coaches up and leaving their programs for more $. This rule has one purpose, keep star players from declaring early so as to prop up talent levels in college, lets not kid ourselves.

According to this list from Goodman, he was not invited to the Combine.
Ouch, if correct.

Disheartening.

Out of curiosity, how do the invitees get selected? Is there a certain specific number invited every year?

Edit: weird auto-fills from phone lately

Maybe talent and potential.  Just not working for Vander after he announced.

At the very least, I think Vander should have taken Phil pressey's spot. They didnt even list vander as one of the key players not invited either. It's not looking good for him to get drafted. Maybe it will work out better for him like it did for Wes.

Clearly talent and potential.  But I mean literally what is the selection process.  Who decides?  A consortium of scouts?  One person?  Every team gets a representative and it goes to a vote?

And are something like 40 invites extended no matter what, or is it not cut & dry?

If I had to guess, there's probably some crossover between those who draw up the combine invite list and the NBA committee that advises early-entrants on their chances of being drafted.

In fact, Vander is listed first. Of course, the list is in alphabetical order!

That list also includes Michael Snaer, whom most draft analysts rank higher than Vander.

Because he's 7-feet tall.

Interesting that every guy on the top players not invited list is a senior except for Blue.

EXACTLY!!! It appears Vander might take the 2013 award for "Worst Choice in Declaring," at least insofar as those handing out invites to the Combine know what they're doing...

48 underclassmen declared. 36 underclassmen were invited.

I guess he's in better position than the 11 underclassmen who were left off the "left off" list, eh?
