100 Years of Student Housing at UW-Madison

http://www.flickr.com/photos/uwmadarchives/sets/72157627235108322/with/5955926568/

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's archives department recently put together a fantastic collection of photos showing how student housing has changed over the past 110 years.

Pretty cool.  Amazing that they were able to keep the drug paraphernalia out of the pictures from the 60's and 70's.

On a more serious note, MU student housing has come a long way since my days on campus but still has a very long way to go.  It is an area where MU lags its competition.  Unfortunately, nothing major (like a Las Vegas style implosion of McCormick) is on the immediate horizon.  Construction priorities remain the Dental School, Engineering, and the Historic Campus projects.  As one can appreciate, money is a bit tight these days.

Most of those pictures were obviously staged for the brochure or something.  I have never seen dorm rooms looking that neat - especially guys'.

Note that one of those pics from the seventies has coordinating curtains and bedspreads.  Yeah, I am sure that was what a typical room looked like on any given day.
Have some patience, FFS.

IDk, if you compare Mu's new dorms, they aren't lacking at all.  If you mean on the whole (with McCormick, O'D, and Cobeen) then maybe.  But they are definitely making a lot of improvements.

Those who don't know BB Fran will scratch their heads. Those who do will laugh out loud. Well done.

I see Madison's graphic design department has improved dramatically since 2001-02--this pic hardly looks like it's been photoshopped.
