Syracuse and Louisville are gone, UConn and Cinci would leave in a New York minute.

Not to make this political, but after the presidential election, there were a lot of stories about how people pick the news source that suits their views, and they're in a bubble isolated from outside viewpoints and don't have an accurate sense of reality.  The stories were primarily directed to republicans because they lost, but the argument goes both ways, people pick a news source that caters to their pre-existing beliefs.

I think a similar thing may be happening with Big Ten fans because of the BTN.  They watch Big Ten games and see the studio guys constantly talk about Big Ten teams without coverage of any of the other conferences.  I think they're starting to lose a sense of reality outside their bubble, because they don't see as much non-Big Ten coverage anymore.  They had a self-inflated view of the Big Ten to begin with, but I think the BTN is making it worse.

Cognitive Dissonance.

Talking about the teams.  Syracuse, Pitt, and Louisville already have one foot out the door.  They have a few more months and then they will no longer be members of the Big East.

UConn has been publicly trying to join them for a long time now.  Cincy was publicly trying to get the ACC to add them as well.  If either of those schools were ever invited to one of the top 5 conferences, they would not hesitate before leaving.

I read with interest the thread with Sultan debating some of the regulars on the Wiscy Scout board about the future of the MU hoops.   The bucky denizens seem to thing that the new conference is going to be a mid-major and expect MU's 2013 class to de-commit.    Sultan did a decent job of defending MU's position.   It is fascinating to read a perspective 180 degrees from our own.    So, will the premiere basketball-only conference be a mid-major, or will it be one of the top 3-4 basketball conferences in the country?

If you want to have fun, go to Buckyville and use their search tool about Marquette from the likes of Myles, Fran, Swenson, Butchbadger.

Things like:

Marquette will not qualify for the Big East Tournament when we joined the Big East (this is back when the BET only took 12 teams)

Marquette will no longer make the NCAA tournament after leaving CUSA

CUSA is a mid-major conference (this while we were sending 5 or 6 teams to the NCAAs and the Big Ten was sending 3 one year and 4 another)

The Big East will never send more than 7 teams to the NCAA tournament....we've sent as many as 11

Tom Crean will be fired at Indiana by year 4 (wait, people here said that, too).

The new conference will mean less money for MU (in fact, it should mean more money for MU)

And then, there is the wonderful stuff about Vander Blue, Vander's dad, Wes's mom and dad, etc, etc.

The innuendo by Butch and others that MU is cheating .... always fun to hear those barbs over the years coming from a school that currently ranks 5th all time in NCAA probations (that's you UW-madison) while Marquette has zero in it's history.  Good stuff.

Funny predictions and "expert" quips over there.  There's some good quotes on Scout, too, but they don't have a search engine so the stupidity only lasts for a few weeks before it goes to the dustbin of history.

Good stuff, Chicos. Evidently the death of Marquette basketball has been greatly exaggerated by our neighbors to the west.

They do realiaze that all of that recruits have been interviewed since the conference change and that they all reiterated their commitment to MU? They all said something like "The conference wasn't the reason I decided to go to Marquette".

Someone needs to tell these clowns that wishing doesn't make it so.

Chicos is right.....the same idiots actually said Marquette and Depaul would finish at the bottom of the Big East year in and year out when we moved  up from CUSA.

Well they were half right......

ps. Maybe what they should really be worried about is how they are going to compete in a Big 14 with now rebuilt powers like Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota not to mention  OSU and MSU? Throw in rising programs like Iowa, Illinois and Maryland along with Purdue(which is rebuidling) and the fact that Bo is not getting any younger........yes they do indeed have their own concerns.

I think we should adopt a policy of officially calling it the Big Teen.  Also, I find the use of B1G as the most annoying thing ever on message boards, even more annoying than saying "the UW".

I LOVE it!!

Define mid-major however you'd like.  If your school is making over $4MM per year on basketball tv revenue alone, that should tell you where your basketball league stands.  If five or six of twelve schools in your conference make the NCAA tournament, that should tell you where your conference stands.

I'm likely going to be pretty proud of where our conference will stand.  I'm looking forward to games every year or twice per year with Georgetown, maybe Gonzaga, Villanova, St. John's, Xavier, Butler, maybe Creighton, and maybe Dayton.  Every conference has their DePaul, Seton Hall and Providence.  The Big Ten had them with Penn State and Northwestern and added to them with Nebraska and Rutgers.

I don't think the recruits will leave. They all signed Letters of intent. If they were to back away from those, they wouldn't be allowed to play anywhere for a year, if I'm not mistaken. That isn't worthwhile for any of them.

Trust me, I know people CLOSE to recruits.  When it comes to changes, the coach, not the conference were much bigger concerns in signing that LOI.

I'm partial to the Big Wreck, personally, but sadly that might be better used on what's left of the Big East... ;D
Relax. Respect the Process.
