Holy Crap! Bridge collapse in Minneapolis
« on: August 01, 2007, 07:33:22 PM »
At 6:09pm tonight, rush hour, bumper to bumper traffic, a bridge over I-35W about a mile from the Metrodome collapsed into the Mississippi River.  50-100 cars plummet.   :o :o :o :o

What's amazing is .. the cars look almost undisturbed on the deck in the river.  Like they just dropped square down.  So far, 1 death, dozens injured.

I've driven that bridge before .. yikes!!!!!

it was lucky, if you can say that, that the bridge appeared to go down in the middle first and almost wave out to the outside so it was relatively flat when it hit the water...just a straight freefall. Really lucky there wasn't that much torque in the bridge like one side going down first that would have rotated the vehicles and probably caused a lot more deaths.
