The immediate and long-term prognosis of an isolated MCL injury is much better than an ACL.  However, MCL injuries have a tendency to be associated with ACL and meniscus injuries.

The statement by Buzz that the initial doc eval didn't think it was the ACL is reassuring.  Unfortunately the physical exam is much better at ruling in an ACL injury than ruling it out.

MCL injuries are often associated with ACL injuries, because of the mechanism of an ACL injury being forceful and twisting, resulting in ancillary damage to other ligaments.

The opposite, a MCL mechanism injury rarely results in ancillary damage to the ACL.

I tend to think this one looked scarier than it was.  What will slow Blue's return will likely be confidence in this knees stability, especially with they type of player (slasher) he is.

wait, wait, wait. So are people suddenly worried that Vander can't play? Must mean he is a contributor!?!?1

Dr. Blackheart

Glad to give an update but according to most here I am staying at the Lahaina Holiday Inn Express.

TallTitan34

Reminds me of when 75% of people crapped on Dom until he was out for the year and we sucked without him.

Vander tweeted:

@Vander13lue: So Thankful for making the All- Tournament team! Thank you lord for all of your blessings! The knee will be fine!

Thankful for that!

Even if there is no serious structural damage, I still suspect that his 'day to day' status keeps him out of Monday's game at a minimum. No doubt there's swelling and real soreness that will take awhile.

I know Vander would much prefer to be goofing with his teammates on the beach in Maui today rather than sitting at the hospital getting tested, but I'll bet he'll enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with the boys this afternoon if the orthopedic specialist tells him he'll be just fine following some rehab over the next week.

Now we patiently wait for BigDaddy's diagnosis.
Haha. Well played

Well I'm not sure there's too many players we could have injured for the year that wouldn't make me worried about this team - and I'm one whose criticized Vander, but still knew he had value as at least a role-player (though he's definitely proved me wrong in Maui).

It's his third year and he really is starting to show the breakout signs we all were hoping for - would hate to see him lose it when he's got this type of confidence/momentum going.
“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

I've always been uneasy about Vander's offensive game, but you could/can always rely on his hustle, intensity and -- above all -- defense.  That said, his Maui jumper has been pretty sweet and certainly more compact.  What's more, I'm never seen him this confident with his J.  Whether out for the season or not, Vanderbilt's got some great days ahead at MU...

Wade missed a game his junior year. I think it had to do with the MCL. Outside of missing a game, it did not slow him down much, if any.

Who cares about his diagnosis?  I want to know if the team packing Vander's jersey for the next away game.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Vander on both feet this morning at the hotel.  Was moving around ok, albeit with a slight limp, but did not seem to be in any noticeable pain.  Did not notice him wearing a device or anything of a serious nature on his knee, although he was wearing long shorts which could have possibly obscured a compression bandage or something less complicated (although I'm not implying that is/was the case).

Word on the street is that he will be on the team flight tonight, and he will get a complete exam (i.e. MRI) back in Milwaukee this weekend.  Nobody here seems to be too worried, although it's a very cautious mood.  Vander's tweets indicate that he is convinced he'll be ok, but we're not going to know anything for sure until UMBC.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Thanks much for the update.   :)
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

So they aren't packing his jersey to bring back to Milwaukee...crap.
