The Big East should go after Kentucky HARD
« on: October 26, 2012, 07:03:55 PM »
It's really not as crazy as it sounds. If the BE signs a NBC deal, it would have a lot to offer KY at the negotiating table.

First off, the BE has nothing to lose going after someone with their prestige. If anything, they would gain some respect in college sports if they started courting them very publicly (like SMU going for Buzz).

Secondly, it could turn out really great for both sides. If KY swallowed their pride a little bit at first, the addition would solidify the BE as a top 5 BCS conference and #1 conference in bball.

Kentucky is basically in the flipped position right now (#1 football conf and #5ish bball), even though they make a lot more money, their fball side will probably never compete for many conference titles or national championships while in the SEC.

If they came to the BE they would have a much easier route to national championships and top bcs bowls. With the NBC deal they could even play a lot of their games right after the Notre Dame game and be seen by the entire country every week.

On top of that, they would also be able to play their biggest rival (Louisville) a lot more. If you ever been in KY, you know how crazy obsessed each side is about that rivalry.

This will probably never ever happen, but you have to admit that there are a lot of PROs for KY in this scenario...especially in football.

This is the only factor that matters.

I'm not saying they will accept the invitation. I'm just saying that the BE should go out and pursue them in public with the promise of an easier route to becoming a powerhouse football team.

So, moving to a conference that makes less money will make UK a powerhouse football program?

Losing exposure to the best recruiting states for football will make UK a better football program?

They already play UL in fball and bball regularly...while making SEC money.

There is no such thing as a BE powerhouse football program. Da U is/was the only exception...

As it stands now, it will be incredibly difficult for a BE team to access the fball playoff. It's hard to win championships and become a powerhouse when you get snubbed and teams from....the SEC with more losses get the invite.

As it stands right now, UK has access to better bowls than any BE team.

The SEC is due to make even more money when their media rights deal is negotiated.

Other than that, I wonder what is stopping the BE from sending the invite? I think we should invite UF...they are good at both sports!  ::)

Why does it matter.  We'll be in the Big 10 by then.

And embarrass the BE when they say no.

This thread yet again shows that some people do not get it when it comes to conference realignment.  It is about three things ... Making money in football, making money in football and making money in football.

CBS has a huge contract with the SEC to broadcast football, I believe it is the largest conference contract today.  Why leave about 11 million a year for one-tenth that in the BE?

Finally, if the BE was stupid enough to do this, and Kentucky was idiotic enough to accept, they would still not get a chance to play Louisville as they would immediately sell their soul to take Kentucky's place in the SEC.

Let's go for Indiana and Kansas too. Both have great basketball programs and non-competitive football programs. No teal, because the OP didn't need it.
