Bold Predictions: 2012-2013
« on: September 19, 2012, 12:12:06 PM »
I have been thinking of the upcoming basketball season and I am extremely excited regarding the potential we have under Buzz and co.  Some of the bold predictions that I have made are as follows:

*Warning- bold prediction means between a 35 and 40% chance of happening.  I'm not a psychic  ;D

1) Marquette finishes in the top half of the Big East- I think that Jamil will carry us through February and Blue will take over in March.
2) Vander Blue finishes in the top ten in the nation in 3 pt fg made.  He won't have the best percetnage but I think Buzz will be screaming "shoot" quite often when Vander has the ball.
3) Snorlax (Gardner) makes second team All BE. He is a monster in the post and I don't see him missing more than 2 or 3 free throws this year (won't miss one at home as we cheer "AUTOMATIC").
4) Marquette defeats Indiana as the 10 seed to reach the Final Four!!!!!!!  ;)
5) Jamil and Vander become lottery picks after the incredible tourney run.  Pay Day $$$$

Any comments or concerns?  If I am right, this will be a super fun season.

I agree on mostly everything.  ;D

I think Marquette finishes in the top four of the Big East.  Also, I think Trent Lockett challenges for BE POY.
Gardner is straight cash from the line, he will be shooting all our technical free throws this year.
If Junior can learn how to defend his man, we will have the top defensive team in the BE.

Bold predictions.

- Cadougan leads the nation in assists
- Mayo wins BE Sixth Man
- Jamil Wilson averages a double-double
- Six players average double-figures scoring
- Marquette is ranked in the top 10 at some point in the season

Good, I've missed the debate over the "automatic" chant.  I do believe we officially decided that none of our players shall be named after Pokemon characters, though.

I believe the summit determined no dead wrestler, original Pokemon character, or World of Warcraft boss nicknames.

If Vander takes and makes that many 3's, MU will be much, much higher than a 10 seed.

If Vander is in the top 10 for 3pters, this is a top 10 team and a 3 seed or higher.

If Vander makes THAT many three-pointers, we'll be playing Louisville for the National Championship. And, we'll beat them.

Imagine if Todd Mayo shot that well too!

If Vander is in the top 10 in 3FGs made we will win just once, because he will need to take about 30 3 point shots a game to make the requisite 3 or 4 to get him in the top 10.  We would still beat DePaul with one guy shooting 3-30 on 3s.

I think he has NBA hands, NBA touch, and NBA feet.

He lacks explosiveness and his body type (lack of height, length, and weight) hurts him.

The physical issues (weight, strength) could improve over time, but his length is always going to be an issue for NBA scouts who love length and wingspan.

Has a chance to be a very good college player. Robert Jackson is a nice comp.

1) MU finishes top 5 in conference, and the highlight of the regular season was an upset over #1 Louisville
2) Trent and Jamil make ALL BE teams
3) MU makes a suprise run to the Elite 8 as a 7th seed
4) 3 players are drafted in the 2013 draft, Jamil in the late first and Lockett and Blue in the second

Bold predictions and this is the best we can do?  For shame.  Here's a prediction so bold it's bold.

On Senior Day vs. ND, late in the 14th OT period with the score tied and both teams having only one eligible player remaining, Garrett Swanson and Pat Crowley earn a double technical.  With no eligible players remaining on either bench and a potential Big East conference title on the line, the coaches agree that the game shall be determined by a single game (first-to-three points) of ping pong between Otule and Katenda.  Two hours later, the ping pong game is abandoned, ND and MU double forfeit, and DePaul clinches the regular season championship.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Two hours later, the ping pong game is abandoned, and Buzz/Brey agree to settle this via mud wrestling.  Both strip down to tighty-whities and the crowd stampedes for the exits forcing ND and MU double forfeit, and DePaul clinches the regular season championship.

Benny B, I think that would be an incredible chain of events to watch, but like I noted... the bold prediction should be something that has a 35-40% chance of happening.  Yours sounds more like a 10-15% chance... although wee can start a new thread about that if you would like :)

To be honest, the odds of your bold bolded prediction from happening are slimmer than the odds of a lvl. 3 wild caterpie defeating my lvl. 99 Charzard who I taught flamethrower to... I also have a hyper and super potion in my back pocket along with poison control in case he stings me :D

1) Buzz Williams is Coach of the Year in the Big East and a finalist for National Coach of the Year Honors.

2) Vander has a break-out season and shows the entire Big East why he was a blue-chip recruit; credits Buzz for his maturity and stays for his senior year.

3) Three of our players are suspended for minor team rule violations; no impact at all on our game as we kill Notre Dame by 40, after leading by 30 at halftime.

4) We make a run at the Final Four and fall just short, losing to national champion Louisville in the third game we played against them this year -- after we destroy Kentucky AGAIN!

5) Three major state universities, one each in the ACC, SEC and Big Ten, make a run at Buzz. Buzz elects to stay saying, "you don't mess with happy."

6) In 2014, Buzz joins Al McGuire as the only Marquette head coach ever to hoist an NCAA Championship trophey as Vander Blue is named NCAA Player of the Year.

2) Vander Blue finishes in the top ten in the nation in 3 pt fg made.  He won't have the best percetnage but I think Buzz will be screaming "shoot" quite often when Vander has the ball.

I love Vander, and Buzz has clearly been able to find guys and get them hitting treys at much higher rates (Wesley, Jerel, Acker, Cubillan).  But I have to admit the thought of watching that hitch in his shot more than once or twice a game from out there is a little painful as an image.

If so, i will definitely be yelling frequently from the stands, "NO NO NO NO NO ... Great shot Blue, they can't guard you out there!"

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If Marquette has 3 players drafted in the NBA Draft there is no way they're anything below a 3 seed this year.  Crowder and DJO were both 2nd round picks, and those were our only 2 picks.  I'd be shocked with anything more than 1 NBA pick this year.

Does anyone know if there is a maximum amount of walk-ons allowed per team?  My friend Bobby Shields, a red shirt senior in the Engineering program, would like to walk on.

I would say he is more of a Badger to be honest, except without the jumper.  I don't want him on our team... he is just making me ask because he is afraid to post on here.

Is this your friend?  http://www.bobbyshields.com/

He doesn't look like the engineers I went to school with.

  • I prefer a team that's eligible, not paid for

No, there is not, otherwise, Louisville couldn't field a fifth team.

I think there is a limit to how many players can travel.
